G10 Loft / Shaft question

What's your experience ? ? ?
Hit the G10 10.5* TFC shaft on monitor and range: awesome but . . .
Launch angle too high (20*), spin rate too high (4000).
Which combo is the next step to reduce trajectory?

10.5* PL Red

9* TFC

9* V2 HL

Ping G410 2, 3 Hybrid
Ping G410 3, 4 Crossover

I had the same problem. My launch was around 16 degrees and spin around 3800 with a G10 10.5* with a ProLaunch Red. The TFC was higher than that. I went with the 9 degree with PL Red. So far, so good.

If you like the 10.5 try the PL Red, it will lower your launch and spin numbers. If that doesn't work, then try a lower loft in the shaft you like best. The TFC is a mid launch shaft as opposed to the PL Red which is a low launch shaft.

Hybrids: Cobra BioCell, Project X, 6.0
Irons: Ping g5 (3-UW) White, CS lite, S
Wedges: Vokey 56.08, 1* up
Putter: SC Futura X5R, 35 in
Ball: Chrome Soft

Woohoo and Bama

May I ask what your average launch monitor statistics are in terms of swing and ball speed?

I ordered a 10.5 degree with the TFC 129 Stiff. I swing average 106-107 and have a mid launch, but reasonably high spin with a 10 degree Ping Tisi with a regular shaft.

I understood that the G10 clubhead itself, by design promoted higher launch and lower spin. I am worried that I screwed up by getting the 10.5

None of them are the correct choice IMHO.

You need to lower your loft and reduce your spin to maximize your distance. So, you should stay away from high launch, high spin shafts like the TFC and V2 HL. If you're going to stay with a Ping stock shaft offering, the PL Red is probably the only one you should consider.

However, if you're seeing 20 degree launch angles with that combo you probably have some swing issues too. I would recommend that you save yourself some time and frustration and get professionally fitted.

That's my $0.02. Good luck.

After an official Ping fitting (with a Trackman on the range) I ended up with a 10.5 degree G10 with Prolaunch Red - S at 46 inches (what I am use to playing). This driver finally replaced my old Callaway Biggest Big Bertha 9 degree firm (which I could hit absolutely straight almost everytime). I tried the 9 degree G10 but it did not go high enough for my tastes. The 10.5 degree G10 goes a little less high than my Biggest Big Bertha with a lot less spin and when my drives hit the fairway they run forever even when I lauch it a little higher than expected!

I am not sure I believe the myth about Ping's lofts being higher than they are stamped. With these newer drivers the loft, shaft, and position of the CG all play an equally important roll with regards to spin and launch angle. Even Golf Digest published an article awhile back that indicated that there is no standard method to measure loft. Everyone should be fit on a launch monitor (preferably outdoors on a range) and just go with what ever works the best.

SS 105-109 and ball speed 150-155. I was hitting the 10.5 fantastically on monitor with a PL Red stiff shaft, but my spin numbers were out of sight. I am a high ball hitter, so I went with the 9 degree. The jury is still out, but I am launching it high with a more penetrating trajectory, which was what I wanted. My only problem is that the shaft and setup are a little light for me, so my tempo is off right now.

Simply put try all 3!

There are so many parameters that are subject to the individual swing.

I have tried the Ping G10 very impressed, the Tsi was a pitching wedge, but the G10 has a decent lauch

I always played really stiff low launch shafts, but after trying the Proforce V2 High Launch (yes davis love plays the HL model), high initial launch but the flattens out and longer than the PL Red and Proforce v2, carry of HL is 15 yards long and still runs the same when it hits the fairway.

But that's my experience, my swing speed is 119.8mph; the techie say the shaft shouldn't suit but it does.

I would recommend as suggested you experiment with different lofts and shafts. for me the Ping G10 @7.5 with a PF v2 HL x-stiff was just perfect (300plus carry up from 285yards).

The proforce v2 and v2 hl are darn stiff shafts, they may flex more than a whiteboard but are very stable.

I can overload an 65g speeder shaft (hence i played them in 79g) in xstiff.

but the proforce v2 and v2 hl in 65g weight loads just nicely; without big left high hooks.

hope this helps.

but please get on a launch monitor, i wasted $300 on a wrong club (trade-in value after 15 days with the wrong shaft), now i see $70 launch monitor a bargin to find the right shaft.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
