Played at a Charity Tournament

now I am sore...

I played at a tournament to benefit the boy scouts of america yesterday, and man am I sore!

Talked to one of my buddies whom I played with, and said, "man I was swinging hard yesterday."
his simple reply was, "yes you were. you should definitely be sore today."


When you play in a best ball tournament, do you tend to "swing outta yer shoes?"

Yes, especially when playing a scramble, you're geared up for maximum distance on your tee ball and it definitely throws your swing out of whack if you let it.

When you get "older" you become the guy who hits last (sometimes first), who is expected to put the ball in play (at a decent length), after all the hard swingers fail to hit the fairway. LOL

Wrong approach. Now one player is in the garbage and all the pressure is on your pard.

after the first few holes we had used all my drives so I really could have done anything from that point. swinging out of my shoes is definitely not how I play, but was fun for the time being.

 

I usually was first to tee off for most of the holes, so pressure was never really on me to get it down the middle.

 

It was fun, but looooonng. took over 5hours or so to finish.

 

this morning I can feel my neck a little sore from keeping my head down when swinging so hard. If I played like this all the time I wouldn't play as often. I really am sore.

We played in a 4 Man Charity tourney yesterday as well, and I definitely can feel it today. We had the same order on every box, and one of the first two guys always left one in the fairway, but maybe a bit short (230-245 yard drives). I was the 3rd hitter, being long but a bit wild, so I was swinging for the fences each time trying to clear 300. I managed to hit a few fairways and leave us in good shape, but I also lost a couple balls by over swinging at the top. The 4th guy was a scratch who could hit a pretty consistent 285-295 in fairways, so I played without much pressure all day. Kind of refreshing, but I wouldn't want to play that loose all of the time.

I usually get dubbed the "long hitter" in scrambles as well (I guess I'm long compared to people who don't play much golf, but about average for the groups I typically play with). I've finally gotten to the point that I just buy a dozen of the cheapest, hardest golf balls they have in the shop, then swing away. When they get a little wild, unless I know exactly where the ball is, I don't look too long for them.

 

I definitely wake up stiff the next day.
