What is lower launch/spin D2 v FT-5? (added XL Tour info help)

I'm looking for the lower launch and spin driver, looking at these two drivers.. FT-5 Tour and the Titleist D2... which is lower launch and spin? And is there another one you'd throw in there?

Thanks, now my next question is the 9.5 a 9.5*? I'm debating on going 8.5 to try to keep the launch down but don't want to increase the spin. Total killer for me is the spin and launch angle...

I'd go 8.5* if you struggle with too high launch and/or spin. I've got one and love it! Although I've been using my XL tour lately.

I'm looking on Cally pre owned right now at the 8.5 Tour.. wish they took paypal otherwise I'd be sitting here waiting for the club already :)

I think I hit it and didn't like the feel.. I'll try to hit one today if I can... I know when the 600 came out it had a great reaction kind of like the l4v cobra...

If you've got too much launch and spin you may want to look at the shaft. The 8.5* might help, but not if the shaft combo is wrong.

I currently have a VS Proto by you in my Burner and eveb with the 9.5* head it's like playing an 11* driver. Ball just produces too much spin for me and la... :)

I forgot to add the Nickent 4dx Tour Spec is also a low launch and spin head. I had an 8* that I even hit too low. Awesome club for sure and is getting alot of play on the Nationwide.

I hit the FT-5 Tour 9.5* at GG today, and was very happy with the #'s.. swing speed from 95+ to about 104 (not really trying to kill it, my back is just killing me) I had my LA @ about 15ish +/- each time and my spin was around 3500ish some as high as 4k, but this is a huge improvement for me considering what my swings are with the newer high launch drivers (like my burner). My LA is usually around 17-21 with spin in the 5k+.

 

I'm guessing I should probably go with FT-5 Tour... very very happy with the numbers.

 

I also hit the FT-3 Tour 9.5 and had slightly better distance with similar numbers not sure if I should go 3 or 5.

 

I did hit the MP-600 but it was a 10.5, and the LA and spin were much higher.. they didn't have a lower lofted one.

 

Anyone have any advice or suggestions on top of the info I have..

Numbers are still quite high for a moderate swing speed. Try to get down to 3000rpm or lower and a 14* launch angle.

Most of the post 2007 drivers seem very high launch and designed for high handicapers!

 

Square or closed and they are adding loft, fine for most players (doing you a favour and protecting your ego ; good marketing eh) but not good if you're 3 handicapper below with a high swing speed (sorry clubhead speed)

 

I personally like open faced drivers, as do the Pros (better than me); so you can deloft to bring back to square at impact.

 

I play a 8.5 degree which plays like a 7.5 degree loft driver because of the face.

 

Find a head you like, Next get a fitter and try as many different shafts as possible

BTW - I found the callaway Hype Tour r x 8.5 degree to launch the ball on a good mid flight and also found the G10 in 7.5 degree to work in a similar tragectory. Shaft plays a big role, but just cause the maker says low flight this may not happen with your individual swing.

Enjoying Callaway Hyper-X Tour & UST proforce v2 heavenly drives

I've been reading and reading about the FT's, Hibore XL Tour etc and from what I've heard (maybe someone can add to this..)

 

OK..FT-3 vs FT-5, FT-3 wins for a couple reasons...1)slightly better performance= Distance ballspeed workability 2) price, that the 5 was only improved in sound and face size, but just didn't perform as well as the FT-3

 

Also, the HiboreXL Tour was longer than both, slightly less expensive than the FT-3, but performed better...

 

I'm going to take a bit of alonger lunch and go get fitted at my friendly neighborhood Golf *insert* Galaxy or Golfsmith... I know Smith let's you use the $'s towards the price of the club, not sure about golf galaxy... so I may take the ride for that...

Went to golfsmith at lunch and did the whole fitting with the clubs Hit the ft-3 Aldila NV 9.5, ft-5 E360, a Burner Tour 9.5, and then a Burner which I already had. It deffinatley was way better #'s with the 3 & 5, but the Aldila NV shaft made a huge difference in LA and Spin. So I was all set to get the 3 because of the shaft. He said go for the ft-5 because you get the same distance and more forgivness, but it was also 250 too much for me.

 

Well, I just stumbled on an FT-5 Tour 9.5 with the aldila NV S on the bay for 150 :) and got it..

 

I'm stoked!

Nice, Great deal too. Most FT-5's are selling for aroound 200 from what I've seen. I bought mine a couple weeks ago for 190 (It's almost mint) and thought I got a steal.

I got lucky, it wasn't really listed as FT-5 it was ft5 and didn't show up like the regular ft's.. finally I got a break! LOL...hope to have it by friday :).. I was really happy that it came with the NV shaft, now I don't have to pull my VS Proto from my burner and put it int he 5.
