Driver Shaft Reco

No luck in the gen. equipment forum....

 

I'm looking for some advice on a driver + shaft setup to try out. I currently have a HiBore XL 9.5* with the Fuji Fit On M Red S-flex shaft. I can hit bombs with it, but my usual miss is a low stinger with a medium draw or a really low snap hook. I've never been fitted on a launch monitor as I've always used hand-me-downs with good success. This is the first year since I was ~14 that I've purchased clubs. I'm looking to get a nice boring flight and find more consistency with this club.

 

I've been using a Mizuno F60 16.5* (shaft is a Fuji Fit On E150 S-flex) the past couple of weeks off the tee because of my inconsistency with the driver. I'm not sure if it's the shaft or what, but this club fits me like a glove. Every shot is straight or has a slight draw and it is DEEP. I mean outdriving other guys I play with who are hitting drivers. I get a nice mid-high trajectory with the F60 and I also get good roll.

 

So, is it the shaft that's wrong on my driver or could it be something else? I like the HiBore XL head, so I'm thinking about reshafting with a higher launch, lower kick point shaft (ProLaunch Blue maybe). What do you guys think?

The E150 S in the 3 wood is certainly has softer flex profile than the Fuji Fit On M Red S-flex shaft currently fitted to your driver. The E150 is also slightly lighter, his a softer tip (high launch) and has higher torque. There are a few options; firstly, I think you would have preferred the Fuji Fit On M Gold S-flex. You should be able to find one second hand without too much difficulty and you could sell your current club making the exchange cost minimal. Second option would be to fit an E150 S to your current driver; it is a relatively inexpensive shaft.

I would urge you to make the effort to at least test the options before committing (better still have a driver fitting session). The E150 shaft is fitted to the Callaway FT5 and Mizuno 560 so it should be easy enough to find a demo. The Fuji Fit on M Gold is standard on the Cleveland XLS so again it should be easy to try before you buy.

One final thing is the shaft length of your driver, you might have a preference for a slightly shorter shaft, perhaps one of the reasons you prefer the 3 wood. So if you go for a re-shaft explore the possibility of making the driver 44.5 or 44 inches long.
