Can you use them without the inside logo?

I have seen some putter grips that are c-thru with different logos that go on the inside (http://www.tgw.com/customer/category/product.jsp?SUBCATEGORY_ID=3640) and i was wondering if anyone knew if you could use them without the logo or strip or whatever is inside of it and just have clear grip with the shaft showing through. If anyone has tried it and knows how it comes out or if anyone just knows if it can be done then i'd love to hear about it.

Yes, but you will more than likely need to put tape down on the shaft - so you won't see the shaft, just the tape.

Use hairspray in place of the tape.

You don't need grip tape, just masking tape.

 

Hairspray over just the shaft will slip.

While I have never used it on clubs, my only firsthand experience is using it for years on my mountain bike grips. they never slipped once, and they get way more twisting force applied than golf clubs.

 

Ive read some people's reports of using hairnet for an alternative to tape to minimize final grip size for small hands, and that it even works too well and getting the grips off is very difficult.

 

 

 

Just trying to offer a solution if the OP if they wanted to see the shaft.

 

3M has lots of options in spray adhesives that would probably work even better.

C-Thru grips are actually always installed with hairspray and not grip solvent...

 

The reason that bike grips work is they are not designed to have a layer of tape underneath them first.

 

C-Thru grips need the layer of tape to get to the correct inside diameter - or else they are too large to effectively grab the shaft.

I saw a bunch installed at a demo day and the logo strip is the double sided tape that holds the grip in place. I'd assume you still need some form of tape or adhesive to keep the grip in place.

A chap at my club has a bit of a fetish for the C-Thru grips and likes them without a logo beneath.

 

As stated above, he uses layers of transparent sellotape/packing tape to build up the shaft to a decent thickness in order to get them to stay put.

Though they have promised a grip that can be installed with standard grip solvent for September 2008, I don't believe that grip is yet shipping.

 

The standard logo is NOT double-sided tape and solvent is not recommended - it is in fact not solvent compatible as the rubber in the grip will break down under solvents like naptha or mineral spirits.

 

The "tape" today is basically a bumper sticker with a type of ink that doesn't run when hit with hairspray.

 

We've been installing them since they first showed up at the PGA Merchandise Show 4 years ago or so - and have done hundreds of them. We've done our own printing for these for years as well - though we have to cover an ink-jet printed sticker with clear packing tape to keep it from running with the hairspray.

 

It will be interesting to see what the new solvent installation looks like - again, I don't believe they are yet shipping - and I suspect we'll not be able to use our own custom printed stickers any longer with the new grips...
