TaylorMade TP Black "LDP" 20 Yards Shorter Off Tee?

Does this make sense to anyone?

Or did I just get a bad box of balls? I switched from the TP Red to the TP Black starting today in hopes of gaining a little more spin around the greens, what I found was that the Black does not spin noticeably more around the greens, and off the tee it is significantly shorter, like 15-20 yards shorter. I noticed it especially after the ball had been scuffed or cut, like from a wedge shot for example. It was not an aberration either, I switched balls several times thinking that perhaps the first one I was using was just a dud, but throughout the round I was 15-20 yards shorter off the tee, and about 1/2 a club, to a full club shorter with my irons.

Has anyone else experienced this using the TP Black? I've gamed several different premium balls this season, Tour ix, ONE Black, TP Red, and in terms of distance each was very similar, but not the TP Black, not even close. After playing this ball for only 15 holes, I'm ready to s***-can what's left of the dozen I still have and move on.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Like you I have noticed the tp blacks don't spin noticeably more around the greens and I might hit the new tp black a little shorter than the red, but not 20 yards. The only ball that is ridiculously short for me is the Nike one platinum.

We've been selling the crap out of these balls since we got them in, but I'm interested in whether or not this ball is going to have legs. Everyone that I've talked to liked it, but they seem to agree that the price is a little high.

 

40 bucks is premium price for what they are marketing as a non-premium ball. I believe the hype that it's a premium ball for the average golfer, but there are a ton of guys out there who won't play them because they aren't premium, even though they should be playing them, if that makes sense (20 hcp playing Pro-v's).

 

I think this ball is a great concept, but I think it's about $5-10 over priced.

From golf mag ball test earlier this year:

76 mph sand wedge, 38.5 degree launch angle and 10,500 rpm.

TP red 11,872

TP black 12,062

 

NOP was highest @ 13,451

next was Wilson Tx4 @ 12,454

 

I just played the Tx4 this weekend and while I didn't hit any big drives around the greens this excelled. I'm not a high spin player and was spinning it back alot. Almost to much, I prefer a ball to hit and hop once or just stop. A very good ball for the price, recommend them.

HAHA! I totally know what you mean about those "nike fan boys". I've had at least several practically defending them to the death with me about their irons. I play Nike One Blacks too and a Nike wedge and they're still jumping all over my case!

 

As far as the TP Blacks are considered though, I've never had a problem with them. I used to use them until I tried the One Black. Initially I even confused the TP Black and the TP Reds, thinking that the TP Black was like a Pro V1x and vice versa.

Dead serious man, 15-20 yards shorter off the box, with a driver that is. The first hole where I noticed it was the 3rd, which at the course I was playing is a short, yet open par 4 where I usually hit driver and end up with a sand wedge, or a baby pitching wedge into the green depending on the wind. Yesterday, with very little wind to speak of, I hit driver and a full 9 iron which put me right smack in the center of the green. It ended up being a pretty consistent trend throughout the entire round. :man_in_love:
