Maxfli Tour Fire

I've been out of golf for 4+ yrs. Had a case of Maxfli M3 that is almost all gone, down to my last dozen, now that I'm playing again. These balls were cheap and had decent softness, esp. around the greens. They were no ProV's but good enough for me. Unfortunately, Maxfli discontinued them. I can't seem to find the equivalent iteration in their present offerings.

I prefer balls that are soft around the greens, yet not exceedingly short off the tee (Nike Platinum). I also prefer 3piece balls over 2. I tried the new Taylormade TP LDP in both red and black and was impressed w/ both, but at $39/dozen, it would hurt me too much to lose one. I prefer balls that are not too expensive so when I don't find it in 60 sec, I don't mind dropping a new one down for fear of wasting $4/ball.

Looking for a ball <$15/doz with the most softness/spin around the green as possible. Does the Maxfli Tour Fire fit the bill? They advertised that John Daly actually used these on tour, but that's not saying much. Love the guy, but he'll endorse anything for a buck. Still, in the back of my mind, I'm thinking, "If a pro can play it, and those guys hit the softest balls possible, then these balls can't be hard as Pinnacles, right?"

Tell me what your experience is w/ these balls. How do they compare to other brands? I found them online for cheap, $11/doz.

the maxfli tour fire will fill your bill, this ball play similar to the titleist NXT tour, but is softer,longer off the tee and has much more zip around the green and much more half/full wedge spin. If it's 11 per dozen then you should buy as much as you can.

i've seen the powermax advertised as the JD ball as well.

Check into the Top Flite D2 Feel. It's right in your price range and it's a great ball for the money.

Yup. I've been playing the Burner TP for the last month. Great all around ball for the money and performs well enough around and on the greens for my game.

I have been playing the Tour Fire for almost 2 years now and love the feel. I switched from the Pro V1 due to price and I haven't looked back. The ball plays very similar to a NXT Tour but with a much softer feel IMO and more spin around the greens. I think these balls fit right into that $25 performance ball range and as long as I can find them for $11 a dozen I will continue to stock up on them. I have tried the Burner TP and I've read the postings on here that it is the same ball rebadged, and in my opinion they play the same, so why not buy the Maxfli's for $11. I think you will be very happy with the ball at that price.

Based on all the favorable opinions here, I bought 12 dozen of the Maxfli Fire Tour.

 

Unfortunately, they don't perform around the greens as well as I would like. I'm used to a ball that checks up a bit more. Some oldies (cheapies) but goodies are:

Topflite Strata Tour

Maxfli M3 Tour

Maxfli Revolution

 

Not quite ProV level of spin, but good enough for this hacker.

 

I do have to say the Maxfli Fire Tour balls are 1/2 club longer on all my irons. And if I hit a draw off the tee, it's an extra 10 yds longer than my old ball, the Maxfli M3 Tour. If I was looking for distance, this would be the one. They definitely spin more than the Pinnacles and Noodles of the world, but not as well as the premium balls. I guess you get what you pay for.

 

I decided to go w/ what the science tells me. Saw a 'Spin Ranking Chart' from one of the golf magazines. The Srixon Z-URC is ranked in the top 5 and spins as well as the ProV1X. So I bought 6 dozen. Let's hope these workout better.

 

In the meantime, anyone wanna buy the remaining 11 dozen? Will let 'em go for $10/doz, you pay the shipping... haha
