KBS Tour and Ping S57, how to get R/S flex?

A friend fell in love with KBS Tour shafts after trying indoor a set of Wishon with KBS Tour 5.5, and now he wants to order a set of Ping S57 with this shaft.

 

The problem is that the owner told him that Wishon clubs with KBS (installed as it is, uncut and no softstepped) feel and play more to R/S than S flex.

 

Friend possibly wants same feeling and same R/S flex on his new S57's.

 

What is better to do to get R/S flex on new Pings S57 (standard length and D2 SW)?

 

1) simply have Ping install KBS stiff (formerly 5.5) and they will play same as Wishon in term of flex

 

2) have Ping softstep KBS Tour stiff once

 

3) something else.....

Since no one is helping. I'll try with my rookie clubmaking knowledge.

 

What that guy said or what your friend thought the guys said doesn't not make sense at all.

 

First of all, Wishons are .370" parallel hosels. They will require .370 parallel tip KBS

2nd of all, KBS parallel only comes in one length 43.5" Each shaft will be tip trimmed progressively from long iron to wedge.

If what the guy really did was installing an untipped parallel shaft into every single iron and butt trim to length, this will mean that he put a 5.0 shaft for 1 iron into every club.

(KBS trim chart calls 0" trim for a 5.0 flex 1 iron).

If your friend hit a 6 iron that day, then it means that 6i has a 5.0 shaft soft stepped 5 times.

 

Go back and find out what the guy done with that club.

The KB Tour shaft is highly dependent on how you trim it. In our fittings we have the exact same shaft trimmed 4 different ways as our demos and they play completely different. You really should demo a few different trims before you just go and throw a set in and just hope it fits you well. As a reference, I played PX 6.5's and have switched the 120 gram KB R flex, but have it trimmed to the "low ball flight" plus another 3/4" of tipping. They frequency out at 4.5 which is uber soft, but they don't feel soft whatsoever because of the tipping. This is the most common combo our students have purchased. Using our flightscope my shot dispersion with a 6 iron was cut from 11 yards to 6 yards and my spin rate was significantly lower than the PX.
