World Match Play going to Tuscon....

GOOD! La Costa SUCKED.....

I went to the Accenture World Match Play Championships last week and was highly disappointed at the treatement of the average fan with a $30 Grounds Pass. If you weren't a VIP or La Costa member you were treated like a second hand citizen and although I'm too far away to go to the event in Tuscon next year I'll be happy to know that the fans in Tuscon will make the event fun.

Here's a list of negatives from my experience:

1) Public Parking was 10 miles away at Legoland

2) Then you had to wait for a shuttle bus to fill up to take you to the course

3) Once at the course you were free to walk around but the place was so crowded with stuck up, Mercedes driving, no fun having, a-holes that the rest of us "real fans" felt out of place.

4) During the Daly vs Mickleson match I was surprised at how quiet the crowd was, even after a 20' Daly birdie so I shouted a "you da man" after one of Daly's 350+ drives and even though John and Phil seemed to like it....I got dirty looks from the "spectators" who were standing around wondering "who let this yahoo in here".

5) I showed up a bit late on the first day and struggled to get a good spot to watch tee shots. So the next day I found out that the first tee times were at 8:40 am and I wanted to get there early to get a good seat at the first tee. I showed up at Legoland at 6:45 am only to find the parking lot was closed....it didn't open until 8:00. Then when I finally got onto a shuttle bus I had to wait for it to FILL UP. You gotta be kidding me right? There's 5 other busses behind us and I had to sit for over 30 minutes for the bus to fill up. By the time I finally made it to the course the first 2 groups had already teed off and all of the prime seating was once again taken by those who had "special access" tickets and priority parking.

I've been to many PGA tournaments and have always had a great time...getting the players fired up when they make good shots, hooping and hollering at birdies and going crazy after a 350 yard drive. This tournament SUCKED! Yes, it had all of the best players in the world (except Sergio) and I did enjoy seeing some great golf but the atmosphere was quiet and boring. I would of enjoyed it much more watching on TV.

So now we pass the torch to you Tuscon....if you treat it half as good as the FBR Open it will be a success. Leave La Costa to the boring, snobbish, too rich to have fun crowds. Oh and if the folks from the Wold Golf Championship series are wondering why they're not making any money....don't forget who REALLY pays the bills for you....the $30 ticket holders...the every day, t-shirt and tennis shoes wearing fans who drink beer and eat hot dogs. Without us, you'd be like the WNBA....do they still play?
