What can I expect?

Has anyone here played any of the Desert Mountain courses? I am just curious as to what to expect. It is going to be quite a step up from my muni course. My brother in law lives there and is getting me on. I hear it is tough...and I am a little rusty which makes me nervous!

Hey there. Which course are you planning on playing? They're all very good.

I would say my favorite is Outlaws followed by Renegade.

I'd say the biggest trick to most of the holes out there, especially the longer par 4's, is to land the ball either in the front of the green or try to run the ball up to a front pin through the fringe. Be below the hole! Trying to stick mid-irons on some of those green will lead to disaster!

which course are you going to play? each one is pretty great. all of the practice facilities are awesome too. my favorite courses of the 6 are chiricahua, geronimo, and renegade. i'll be out there for a visit in a week and a half!

Outlaw can be brutal - I played there in the AGA Stroke Play and it was firm and fast. Tricky greens with the valley effect. Fun courses though - they are in fantastic condition all the time.

I worked their for about 9months. Geronimo is awsome followed by Chiricahua, apache is very fun too. Have fun the place is amazing.

Thanks for the tips. I'll be there for four days and I think we are getting in four rounds (Renegade, Outlaw, Cochise, and Apache). I have a new FT-iq on the way. Sounds like I might need the accuracy!

From what I understand, Outlaw is the most different from the others. It is a core routing without housing intrusion and totally walkable. It is also supposed to be the least favorite of the members.

In the winter, they leave the fairways dormant and mow it short. This gives a very fast and firm playing surface that is extremely tricky. And fun. So I've heard... I have yet to garner an invitation.

I played Apache, Geronimo, Cochise, and Chirachua last month. The greens at Apache are very firm. You will have a hard time holding the greens. What makes it even more difficult is, the dormant bermuda around the greens. It can be very difficult to chip off of the dormant grass.

I loved playing Geronimo, and Chirachua. Some awesome views from Chirachua. I did not have a chance to play Outlaw, but I have heard, they do not overseed that course.

Try to play 36 holes per day. You only have to pay cart fee for the 2nd round, even if you play a different course.
