I QUITE UNDERSTOOD THE QUESTION....THEY ARE VERY FORGIVING FOR A PLAYERS FORGED IRON,AND HAVING A TOPLINE SO MUCH BIGGER LIKE THE X TOURS FOR EXAMPLE DOES NOT NECESSARILY MAKE IT MORE FORGIVING

I agree. If you look in my signature, you will see I am playing them. I hated the X-Tours. The question was what is the most forgiving club. The MP-60 does not fit the bill. The MX-23 is much more forgiving. I have worked in a major golf retailer for years and have tried almost every club made in the past 10 years. The MP-60 is far from the most forgiving. He didn't ask for a "players" cavity back. He asked for the most forgiving that didn't look like a shovel.

I always find these threads interesting. Forgiving is such a subjective trait. You can't really answer this question without knowing what kind of golfer you are (as the arguement above reflects). I am a 19 handicap, to me the MP-60 are NOT forgiving. However, to a 10 handicap, the MP-60 maybe considered very fogiving.

So I guess the bottom-line is you need to supply a little more information. Or better yet, hit a couple of demos and decide what is forgiving to you and your game.

I would buy the MX-23s or the X-Tours for forgiveness. The MP-60s are a step backwards---don't feel very good and offer no more forgiveness when compared to the MP-32s. The MP-32s are very forgiving and feel night and day softer than the MP-60s that moved too much metal from behind the ball. I can find none of the Mizuno players or pros I know that think the MP-60 is an improvement over the MP-32s (8 total guys by count). Many of these guys get the clubs for free so there isn't the I bought the MP-60s so they must be better than anything else stockholm syndrome.

Topline thickness has nothing to do with forgiveness. Who said anything about that? The question has nothing to do with how forgiving a club is when it is hit on the "screws". The forgiveness of a club has to do with off center hits and has to do with how well the club is perimeter weighted. Please stop writing in all caps and trying to argue for no reason.

What is the most forgiving, forged cavity back iron that is NOT reminicent of a shovel.............

Hands down the X-Tours. Here is some ecxerpts from a review:

APPEARANCE - Kind of a funky logo design, but overall - this iron looks terrific. The forged appearance looks wonderful, and the sharp angles of the back of the clubface look very modern. Good effort by callaway to design a more modern looking club.

FEEL/PERFORMANCE - Solid, with a more controllable feel than previous Callaway irons. One of my complaints about Callaway irons is that the face feels TOO light and springy, which makes distance control a problem. I didn't feel that with the X-Tours. The sole design also felt very nice through the turf, and was easy to hit from various lies. As you would expect from Callaway, forgiveness definitely a trait of these irons.

SUMMARY - A wonderful iron by Callaway. This iron is no "shovel". It's a very solid performer, and a good contender for any player who wants a high performing forged iron, with typical Callaway forgiveness.

I build or re-build a couple of dozen sets each year, for players of all levels, and I hit everything I build, so this is based on a fair amount of experience. The most consistently forgiving non-shovel forging, BY FAR, is the Maltby M-05 from Golfworks. Offset is a constant 2.5mm, topline is fairly thin, sole fairly wide, blade length is midsize. The only player who won't thrive with these is someone who hits the ball extremely high already - the vertical CoG will be too low on these. That player will do better with the M-45 or with the 550c from Wishon. I love the Mizuno MP60, as well as the Bridgestones and Honmas, but for pure forgiveness the Maltbys are way ahead.
