Nike Sumo2 Tour -- Wow

So I picked up a Nike Sumo2 Tour 8.5* with a real Blueboard 83x from the BST. I got it home, cut off the Nike grip, cut the shaft down to play at 44.5"(D2 swing weight) and slapped a GPTV grip on there and took her out to play. WOW!!!

 

I was a little hesitant about the square head, but ya, fantastic. I had been gaming a R7 460 with an Aldila NV65X, but had problems with drives and ballooned. I swapped that out with a protopype 80x to try to bring the spin and launch down. The PYPE did a great job at that, but I was still pretty inconsistent with the R7, and just had zero confidence in the club. Duck hooks, balloons, and fades were all mixed in with good shots. So I found myself playing my 3w off the tee with, which i'm very consistent with. I know a lot of it was probably in my head, but you all know how hard it is to hit a driver you're not confident with.

 

So I wanted to trying a lower lofted, lower spin head(r7-460 is HIGH spin), with a little more forgiveness. And thing is IT! Super consistent long, straight, penetrating drives. I was very long with my r7 when i hit it straight, so I wouldn't say I'm much longer with the nike, but my average drive is WAAYYY up. I shot an 84 yesterday, but had the worst putting round imaginable (39 putts).

 

Moral of the story. This thing is a keeper. Last note: the sound. It's not as bad as the 5900, but it is still very loud. Not ear piercing, but loud. I'm warming up to it though.

 

Anyone else still gaming the Sumo 2 Tour? If not, what made you switch?

I liked it at first but after awhile I couldn't stop hitting it left. I just went out on a limb when it first came out because they gave me one. Theres no doubt its a nice head and much better looking and sounding than 5900...I really think it was the square head that finally made me dump it.

I'm gaming it and right now I am crushing it! As an experiment I picked up the head cheap and put in my gamer shaft. To me it sounds duller than the 5900. I love how my misses are still long and playable.
