ebay...good putter, WRONG putter

what should I do?

I won an auction for a putter from a company that has 14000 transactions to it's credit.

The putter described online was not exactly the putter I received via FedEx.
Plus, the heel of the putter was exposed when I received the box...poor packaging.

I like the putter...nothing wrong with it. But it's not what he advertised.
Should I let them slide with a neutral feedback, or give them a negative with gentlemanly comments?

Did you let the seller know of his mistake? Often many sellers will correct their own mistake. Poor packaging might not be the seller's fault but could be the shipper's rough handling. As long as nothing is broken or damaged, the better it is.

 

About the feedback, if it was me, I will not leave any feedback at all. Often the seller will retaliate with their own feedback in response to the feedback that you left for the seller.

I would give them the opportunity to correct the situation...I would write to the seller, explain your points, and ask them what they feel they should do about it. The reason I do that is to get a feel for what their customer handling is like in how they reply, it is also nice to start off gentlemanly. If you feel you have definitely been taken for a ride in which case go in with all guns blazing - but don't be surprised if they do the same.

 

You never know, they may have sent the wrong putter by accident and may be happy to hear from you, as well as the fact the Fedex mouse got at the package...

If you want to leave feedback you can do neutral if he doesnt correct the error or positive if he corects it

Yes. I've contacted the seller and they couldn't find the putter that they had listed.

They think they might have sent it to a previous auction winner who didn't notice/mention the mix-up.

 

They are more than willing to have the putter returned...at their expense.

 

Once in the past, I tried to have the seller simply refund me the cost of shipping for return of a poor item and it blew up in my face. I guess that's the red flag of a ebay scoundrel, so I didn't mention that option.

I have hundreds of sales on EBAY and would want any mistake that I may have made in shipping the wrong product brought to my attention so that I can correct the mistake. Any REPUTABLE seller would do the same. I always want my customers to be happy at the end of the day. Remember the old saying..."Do un to others as you would want done to you..."

I told him about the error and the only thing he could do was to have it returned.

 

I saved him $10 shipping by keeping the putter...plus I have a putter now.

 

Posted neutral feedback with explanation of problems and positives of the sale.

I ordered a wedge, and end up with a 6 iron. I let the seller know they made a mistake (power seller), they sent me the wedge I ordered with a shipping slip for the 6 iron, which I put back in the box they sent, and sent it write back to them.

 

Didn't cost me a penny, and made me a happy customer, that even if they make a mistake, they will take care of you. Experiences like that make me nervous to use eBay, but if it is a trusted seller, then usually you are fine.

I order golf shoes, for my son they advertise his size (6.5) and stated it was a mens shoe. Nevertheless it arrived as a womans shoe (too narrow). Emailed them the refunded the purchase and said "keep the shoes too." Wonderful I donated them to the HS womans team.

I think you should have gave him a positive, since he did agree to take it back. It's you that wanted to keep it and not have the seller correct the mistake.

If you felt it was neutral then that's the right decision. Only ever give positive if you really think it was a positive transaction.

If I ever have problems with a seller I always give them a chance to correct the problem before I leave feedback.
