Vegas Golf

Going to be in Vegas the end of August for a few days and need some help narrowing down my choices. Has anyone played the TPC Las Vegas lately? For the Friday round I have it narrowed down between TPC Las Vegas and the Chase at Coyote Springs. For Sunday it is between Dragon Ridge and Shadow Creek. When I was out in April we played Wolf Creek, The Revere, Pauite (Wolf), Rio Secco and Cascata. I actually thought Pauite was rather boring so I want to avoid those type courses.

I am looking for courses in good shape and don't mind paying extra. Was planning to play Southshore CC but had a buddy play it last week and said it is in horrible shape. I guess a direct result of the Lake Las Vegas Debacle.

My usual trips are in April and December so I haven't ever played in summer golf in Vegas so I welcome all thoughts and direction.

Thanks!

Between Dragon Ridge and Shadow Creek? Shadow Creek by a mile! Dragon Ridge is nice, but very similar to Rio Secco or the Revere Courses. Shadow Creek is in another category (Cascada, Southern Highlands and maybe Wynn are about the only other courses as nice).

TPC Las Vegas is in great shape, playing it tomorrow as a matter of fact! Chase is nice, bit its an hour out in the middle of nowhere, and I mean "nowhere". Just based on location I would say TPC Vegas.

9six4- Thanks for your feedback. I will be interested to hear about your experience at the TPC today. I definitely value your opinon on Shadow vs Dragon too.

Ping-er- Wolf creek is awesome You will have a good time. Might rethink Reflection Bay, they closed it a few weeks ago due to bankrupcy and not sure when or if it will reopen.

Damn, Reflection Bay looked good...oh well, hope the same scenario doesnt hit Wolf Creek...played that many years ago and was just an AWWWW experience ;-) scored for s***, but it didn't matter, the scenery made more then up for it lol...

YO, 9six4, you seem from the Area...what other course has a awesome experience scenery wise like Mesquites Wolf Creek ? Any recommendations... ? Played Paiute, Badlands, etc most that stuff close to the strip, some exeptions...How is Balihai (sp?), overrated ?

TPC is in great shape, as it always is. They just punched the greens, but they still rolled great, just didn't have the usual perfect cosmetics. However, after a week or so, it should look great, definitely by the end of the month it will look perfect. Its a tricky track, but lots of fun when you figure out the course.

Bali Hai is really the most over hyped courses in town, actually the owner spends millions marketing this course (as well as Desert Pines and Royal Links). While it is located on the strip, it is directly under the airport, and planes are right over your head. Its a nice track, but really nothing special and crammed on a site that is a little small. I wouldn't pay anymore than $100 to play it.

There really is no place like Wolf Creek, that track is in another category (like playing on the moon)!

True that...heard that too about Bali and Royal Links, the later even being close to a dump ? or Motorhome place ? some complained about smells lol...how is BEARS BEST ? have you played that ? or RIO SECCO ? Thx...

Bear's Best is always in great shape, but in my mind I think its over rated, I would just as well play Red Rock Arroyo or even Sienna as much as Bear's Best. And definitely TPC Las Vegas before BB.

Rio Secco is nice as well (also over rated in my mind) playing there next Sunday so I will update you guys on conditions as well. But honestly, I would just as well play Revere Concord or Lexington, which are usually cheaper and just as nice. I played Concord last week and the greens were fantastic.

Dragon Ridge is also located in the same area is suppose to be private, but I hear you can get tee times there as well. Its also VERY nice. All of these courses (Dragon Ridge, Revere Concord or Lexington and Rio Secco) are VERY hilly with great views and are very fun ....... and frustrating if you can figure out where things break too!

Hilly and great views...right up my alley lol. Rio Secco seems to have nice views over Vegas Strip from online Gallery. And I might even look into a "T-Mate" to caddy :man_in_love:

+1 to Revere - I played concord last week also and I felt like I was stealing - the greens were insanely good! Well, they have a slight ball mark problem, but they were rolling FAST but still receptive. Well worth the standard summer rate. Lexington is a bit nicer course, but Concord usually has more tee times available. It's a great place to make a 36 hole day - play em both and the bar/grill is pretty good for lunch.

I gotta say, I don't think Rio Secco is overrated - it's a great course - I will say it's overpriced however. Really, they keep the place beautiful and the greens are like glass in the summer. But it's very similar in play/layout to Revere - for 2x the dough.

My standby course happens to be in great shape right now, The Legacy in Henderson. Greens were punched well over a month ago and they're running considerably nice right now. It's a long course ~7200 from the tips, 74.5 / 137, lots of rolling moguls to navigate in the fairways but fairly short rough.
From my experience with the tee mates you are better off saving that cash and using it at the Rhino...Rio Secco is indeed a fun course though. Thanks for all of the info.
I hear ya  ...only this time we have an "older" guy with us and I am afraid he is gonna get a heartattack there...so T mates is the max for him lol
