TM driver question

I've thought some time on this, and can't come up with an answer alone. So here it is wrxer's.

As everyone knows, Taylormade has the new r7 460 with 2 weights out. And Everyone thinks now towards a 460cc 4 weight driver. Could all of the new weight saving technology make this possible? A 460 quad head with TM's current designs would produce a very heavy head. What if they tried a combo of a carbon top, and adopt the concept of Callaway's S2H2 hosel which saves weight for redistribution, to save alot of weight for the design of the weights and ports?

I could just be stabbing in the dark :D , but it's an idea.........? :stop:

They could make the body with more composite like the FT-3. I did notice however than the r7 quad was a very heavy head with a very heavy swingweight.

I am not sure about this but here is my opinion. If TM made a 460 head with 4 moveable weights they would need to make the walls of the club EXTREMELY thin in order to be able to redistribute that much weight using the weight ports. This would probably lead to caved faces and nothing good. Just my opinion though.

Talked to a Taylor Made insider and they have a 5 weight 460 in testing. Four on the back and one in the sole that will control the trajectory much better than toady's set up. The problem they are dealing with is trying to protect that weight from damage since it can get slammed into the tee/grass occasionally---damaging the weight removeable star slot making it more "permanent" than removeable.

But first they will ride the 460 two weight in a TP version that isn't hooked like a dog's hind leg. I seriously doubt you will ever see a carbon topped driver from Taylor Made in the U.S. That is a technology that has come and gone and isn't needed with the new thin wall casting technology that is emerging this year.

If they're worried about the sold weight getting damaged, why not just make it permanent?

Because then you couldn't change it and what would be the point?? This weight has a possiblilty to really change the driver characteristics whereas the 4 set up just serves to drive people nutty with combinations that really don't change that much. I've found lead tape to be much more effective since you can put it where it needs to be not in the ports.
