Why are the 704's so popular now?

I want to ask everyone: Why are the Titleist 704cb irons becoming so popular after they are now being closed out? I have had mine for over a year and many people did not like them when I was playing them for the last year. Now I have 2 friends who have recently switched after they said Mizuno or Bridgestone irons were so much better and softer. So why now are they becoming so good? Anyone?

Probably because they are now closed out and you can get them inexpensively.

They're both being closed out, the 704's are being replaced by the 735's for now and hopefully by the 755's in the future.

 

I think the stainless forgings get a little bit of a bad rap from many purists who prefer the softer forgings mentioned above. Sure stainless feels harder than carbon steel, but it has advantages as well, for one durability which is great for ball beaters like myself.

 

To me, the 704's do everything I need in my game. They've got forgiving and high launching long irons, controllable mid irons, and small, accurate short irons.

 

As to why they're gaining popularity now, I think the reduced prices have people who were on the fence about them giving in, and from there I guess you can chalk that up to domino effect and word of mouth. :stop:

 

Great set of clubs, good enough to fit a wide variety of handicaps, if you're considering them, I'd definately give them a shot.

735's are not a replacement for 704 at all. Its a progressive iron designed to bridge the gap between 704 and 690.

If I remember correctly, and that's a big "if," the 704 was the latest installment of the successful DCI line... so I imagine that some fans of the former DCI products or those interested in them wanted to wait for the "honey moon" period to be over with these clubs before committing to them... plus, the discounted price can't hurt, either :stop:

They're popular because people are starting to realise the 735CM are no better and in fact uglier (my opinion, sorry). Also, I think the 695 MB & CB are simply too penal for the average low-mid hcap player. The 704's can be worked, yet offer decent feedback and forgiveness.

 

Added to that, the cheap deals to be had on the 704.CB's now, they're a strong contender. I'd rate them as one of the most versatile irons around.

I noticed they seem to be a popular chioce for pro women. Both Big Break V finalists use them and last year at my company's annual charity event one of the LPGA ladies (forget her name) had them as well.
