Ahh, The Exorcist. I saw it the first time when it came out, I was 8, scared the hell out of me then. Still gives me the chills every time I watch it. For me it is the scariest, most chilling movie ever made. No big special effects, just a great movie.
Havent seen it but me and the Mrs. want to.

Favorite movie around these Halloween times is the Directors uncut version of The Excorcist. When ol' girl comes down the stairs crablike on her backside, I almost freaked the heck out. Ew .....

Well I hate to say it but I liked the 1st Saw movie. The acting was pretty terrible, but the plot was SO good it made up for it (IMHO).
I really liked the Saw series through the 3rd movie. I watched the 4th and thought it was completely retarded. Not going to bother watching the 5th or 6th.

yes. the ring was really a solid scary movie. growing up the one that always scared me was nightmare on elmstreet. because he based the movie on something that happened in an asian country... i forget which one... where a kid was just too scared to sleep like he thought something was going to get him... and so his parents took him to a doctor and he prescribed sleeping pills i guess and when they returned home and after a couple of weeks had passed the boy finally fell asleep and so the parents were relieved until the boy started convulsing and make what seemed like fighting motions.... when the parents got to his room he was dead. they found a coffee pot in his closet. and they found all of his sleeping pills. he hadnt taken any of them.

you can actually look that up.

The movie is loosley based on stories of Unexplained Death Syndrome. Mainly, a group of people from Cambodia who where scared of something in their dreams so they wouldn't go to sleep. Once they did they never woke up. Some were seen fighting something in their sleep before they died.

and

The Ring
Ahh the Shining, that was really good movie. I still scare my wife sometimes with REDRUM REDRUM REDRUM!! Those twins were freaking creepy and the blood flowing out of the walls, scared the crap out of me when I was kid.
It was pretty good, lame for a while but got interesting near the end.
Finally got to see PA this past Friday and I would agree. Slow start but good as it went on. People were actually running out of the theater! I thought it was better than the Blair Witch Project as some compared it to.
