Upro GPS Battery Replacment

I've had my unit for about 5 months. I use the wall charger but don't leave it in after the battery is recharged.

About a month ago, the unit would not blink indicating a full charge. It would power off during my round and I could not turn it back on. I contacted tech support who had me charge the unit via my usb port. It charged and I checked the battery level with the utilities menu and it was 100%. Again, it powered off after about 15 minutes.

Has anybody else experienced this situation. Tech support has instructed me to take the battery out of the unit for 24 hours and then put it back in to see if the unit powers up. From there, we would then check/change settings. That solution sounds weak to me but tech support did state that they would setup an RA if the unit would not power up. Of course, there is a 2 week backorder.

Has anybody else experienced this anomaly?

I do not have a Upro but some other brand units have a power saving "auto shutoff" setting that will turn the GPS off if no buttons are touched within a certain time period. See if your unit has one and if so you should be able to disable that function.

I haven't had this problem with my uPro, but I have with other small electronics like cell phones. Could be a faulty memory setting on your uPro or something wrong with the battery. In addition to removing your battery, I'd recommend simply leaving your uPro on and letting it drain completely, then removing it (no more than a couple mins should do), then recharging it fully. If it doesn't hold a charge then, get a replacement battery from RadioShack or somewhere else. This battery looks like it's replaceable by a third-party brand as long as its the right size, connections, and voltage. You shouldn't need a uPro-branded battery.

The leaving the battery out didn't work and I'm pretty sure the battery isn't holding a charge as I can't even power up the unit.

Since its a few weeks wait to do an exchange as explained by upro support, I ordered a battery and should find out shortly if the battery was defective.

Update:

The new battery did not resolve the problem with the unit.

I called Upro Support and they issued a return authorization for an excahnge. They emailed me a UPS shipping label which I used to ship back the malfunctioning unit. They shipped an exchange unit via UPS 2 day, minus the wall charger (I kept the original one) since that was the cause of a two week delay. They even loaded up my courses on the new unit for me. The replacement unit was ready to go out of the box as the unit was fully charged to boot.

Great customer service.

yes i had the exact same issue. i followed there recommendations. i think it was a auto shut down they seem to be having issues with. did the recommended changes and haven't had any other problems.
