True Temper Dynamic Gold S300

Outdated and obsolete???
Hey Everyone:

Perhaps I should've posted in the clubmaker's area.

When I went to get my driver re-shafted the fitter and I got to talking about my iron shafts. They mentioned they could take the stats from my driver fitting and see if my iron shafts were a good fit. When I mentioned that I had TT DGS300 they said that it was old technology that was outdated. Now I like the S300 shafts but I would consider a change if I could get a lil more out of my Wilson Staff Pi5 irons. So suffice to say that I did not leave the irons there. Considering the number of Tour player's still playing the Dynamic Gold shafts. Is this necessarilly true regarding S300 shafts? I admit I'm the most tech savvy, but I do know quite a bit.

Thanks,

Alex

Your club fitter is right, TTDG may not be filled with leading edge technology. But they are still the GOLD standard which most every shaft is measured.

There are certainly newer technologies out there (Nippon, Project X, Tour Concept, Black Gold, etc.), but the normal Dynamic Gold still gets a lot of play on tour and while it is possible you might have slightly more luck with another shaft (I use Dynalite Golds for example), the DG is still a great shaft.

The Toyota Prius has more technology compared to say a Corolla, but do they both preform the same? It depends on the driver. DG shafts have been around for awhile, but out dated, hardly. Medium to heavy weight shaft with a high bend point, it is still the leader on tour. As to is there anything better out there for you, maybe, but that does not mean the DG's are old and outdated. Different strokes for different folkes.

When it comes to steel shafts you just have to be fitted to a bend point, weight, flex, and torque. They are all different and one is not better than the other. To me it sounds like your club fitter/salesman was trying to make some extra money.

old technology? probably so. obsolete technoloty? hardly.

are the dynamic golds, the best shaft for you? maybe yes, maybe no, but the shafts, like was are already said, are the gold standard. your clubmaker would only make such a statement because 1. he doesn't know what he's talking about and 2. he wants you to go with something else that costs more money so he can make more money.

Bingo!

The DG's are great shafts, if they are what you need.

LOL that's exactly what I thought. I love my Dynamic Gold S300 shafts. He was right about my driver shaft however.

If you really like to know, go back to see the clubmaker and mention about what he said the other day. Then ask him what shafts he thinks they'd be better for you and if he has them in stock. If it's something more expensive and he "coincidently" has "some" in stock, now, you know what kind of a clubmaker he is.

DG's outdated? Hardly! Tell your clubmaker to read the Darrell Survey and week in and week out he'll see what the top iron shaft is on tour. I've tried just about all the rifles, nippons etc. and the DG's are firmly in my irons. Their ballflight and trajectory control are second to none for ME! There are many good steel shafts out there and its just a matter of what works best for you. For me its DG!
