Bending Ping Wedges?

Can it be done?

Hey, i was wondering if i would be able to bend my Ping Tour (black dot) 52* and 58* wedges to 54* and 60*. I know this will increase bounce and decrease offset, and im fine with that. But i have heard that bending cast clubs poses a posibility of breakage or damage..Does anyone know if 2* will hurt them?

Yes you can. What you're after is a doddle and the risk of breakage is very low.

Okay Thanks. Hey Mat, i noticed that in your signature you have a 905s with a graffaloy blue..how does that shaft perform in the wind? I know its a low spin head, but is the blue like the prolaunch blue, or does it launch lower. And back to the wedges, what exactly does bounce do when playing fairway shots?

It's a cracking shaft in the wind. I get a nice piercing flight with it that cuts through any sort of breeze well and the S head is nice and shapeable, so I'm able to work shots nicely in a crosswind. PL Blue is a totally different shaft and hopeless in my hands since it spins so much and goes so high.

Bounce in wedges, in terms of playing fuller shots from tairway, is effectively part of the picture of how the club interacts with the turf. Along with the width of the sole and the nature of the leading edge it determines how much tendency a wedge has to dig - or not dig. Generally, more bounce is suited to golfers with a descending blow and for softer conditions as it encourages the club not to dig excessively. Obviously, the amount of bounce also has to be weighed up against the roles that the club will play around the green too.

My mishit with a wedge is usually a chunk on full shots (happens every so often) so with the bounce 'lessen' the blow or something like that?

And thanks for the reply on the driver. I saw one of those on ebay, and i was wondering how that shaft performed. Do you happen to know where i can find the specs for that shaft? And since you're an owner of a bore through, how much stiffer do you think the shaft actually plays...ive heard things that they may play a flex stiffer because of the bore through, just thought id get a direct opinion of an owner.

You can get Ping to bend them 2* for you and not void your warranty on them. It also weakens the club head. They've bent mine stronger and flatter as well as replaced the shaft I bent from hitting a tree root. Free of charge.
