Mactec NVG2 Driver Questions for triers or users.?

pitch

Recommended Posts

I did a search and read a lot of nice things about this driver. But I have a couple of questions for those of you that have tried or are playing it.

How is the Fujikura Quadra action shaft? Does it play true to flex for you?

What is the launch angle like with the stock shaft?

Have you found any winner reshafts?

Thanks for the help!!!!

I hit the tour model at a demo day not too long ago....I was very impressed. This thing was a rocket launcher - long and straight. I currently play an R5tp 9.5 degree with the stiff Diamana. The quadra Fuji in the Mac driver felt fairly nice....not quite as smooth as the Diamana, but it was nice. The flight with the Mac was fairly low for me. I tried either the 9 or 9.5 at first and it was just too low for me. I then tried the 10 (or 10.5) High Launch, and viola....This driver was great. It felt like the entire face was hot and forgiving. If anyone is looking for a new driver, I would definitely give this one a test.

I tried the NVG2 Tour 9 degree with the Speeder Quad Shaft in Stiff.

I had a 30 mph wind in my face on the range so hard to evaluate distance. Range balls were aero limited.

Personally, I think the Tour Head is the way to go. Less Noise, better look, Speeder Triax Shaft.

I am 100 driver SS average with mid tempo.

The face felt hot, very solid and it did seem like a larger sweetspot. It was a bit muted but not as much as the FT-3 head (which is really muted and doesn't feel that good to me). Trajectory was flat on the couple of good swings I had.

The 9 degree was a bit too low in trajectory. I'd go 10 degree with the Tour and Speeder Quad with my swing. I think from the 10 on up, the Tour heads introduce a little bit of draw bias even though the heads are supposedly square to slightly open.

It's an impressive beast.

i bought a non-tour regular flex 9.5 last thursday. took it to the range and quickly came to the conclusion that the regular flex was not for me. was hitting the thing farther right than i have in at least 10 years. feel off the clubface is muted with a very subtle difference in feel and sound (higher pitch) when not hitting off the center.

traded in the regular for a stiff on friday and took it to the course. got to hit 5-10 balls on the range prior to teeing off. could still go right but not nearly with so much spin as the regular. for reference, i've been using a wilson pd5 with fuji tour platform 27.3 stiff for the past 9 months so the feel is very different with the stock nvg2 shaft. the tour platform has a nice kick to it and gives the impression of being able to feel where the clubhead is all through the swing. not so with the nvg2 in fact thats my biggest problem so far - i can't tell what the head is doing so its very hard to get my tempo right.

anyway, on the course this thing has potential! im not one to hype but i hit 2 balls over 300 yards - 305 and 308 by the cart gps and one at 285. these were all admittedly downwind or at least had a cross/helping wind but regardless they are longer than anything ive hit in years! my typical drive is in the 230-240 range including roll. with the macgregor, i am getting a low to mid-low ball flight but when the ball hits the ground it takes off and really runs out. quite amazing. on the downside i hit one enormous slice OB and pull-hooked another. my usual miss is a push.

got some range time in on sat and am getting more comfortable and able better to square up the face. im a 9 and have played for 30 years. no joke, this thing is very long.

We have sold a few, and have received some good feedback. I would find it hard to beleive that Fuji would make a stock shaft for anyone with a flex designation on it that was not up to snuff with the rest of the shafts in the industry.

Nicholas,

A Macgregor rep told me that the tour model flex designations are true (i.e. a stiff really is a stiff), but on the non-tour model the flex designations are inflated a little (i.e. a stiff is more like an actuall regular). This was at a demo day and I was able to try both tour and non-tour clubs in stiff flex. The tour shaft was defnitely stiffer.

I think the flex designations on the non-tour model ARE on par with the rest of the industry, where a stiff shaft is actually more like a regular. In the tour model, the stiff is more like what you would expect a stiff to be (around 260 cpms at typical driver lengths). JMHO, YMMV.

... i have only played two rounds with a mactec 10* tour. but the face is like a mini trampoline. the speeder quadraflex is a great shaft for an off the rack stock shaft. i was hittin it very well and almost all shots felt the same, even though my ball marks were a little bigger than the size of a golfball. my pard hit it twice and said it felt great, and when we checked his ballmarks he hit the first one very low and toward the heel. the second one was very low and almost ON the heel, yet he got almost normal results!!! i put a vs proto in it last nite and will play it today to see the difference in performance. i really liked the 905r and the j33r 460, but this one seems to be a little better in every way.

Switched from TM Tour 580XD 10.5* with Fuji Tour spec 553 X to a Tour Van Issued NVG2 Tour MACTEC 9* with an OXIK F-7m X.

Driver has muted sound and solid feel.

Ball flight slightly lower than previous driver, but not much.

Workability is excellent--I can actually hit a controlled draw with this baby!

Carry is equal or longer.

Roll out is outstanding and considerably more than with previous driver.

MACTEC NVG2 Tour is a much longer hitting driver.

Best driver/ shaft combo I've had and it's firmly in the bag.

I hit a MacTec NVG2 at the range the other day. I also hit a 905R for comparison. I started with the 905R and really liked it. Then I hit the NVG2 and it was not even close, I liked it so much MORE than the 905R. This might have been the best driver I have ever hit. As you can see in my signature, I am a Titleist guy, so if anything I started out biased against the MacGregor. I had started to think I would never find anything to knock the 983K out of my bag, but the NVG2 has got me thinking about it!
