Look at the some of the greatest coaches in sports in the college and pro ranks. Very few of them where great players at their particular sports. The fact is some guys are better teachers of the game than players.

As for instruction it's no so much what I guy does but what you can learn from him or her.

Depends on how you look at it i guess. You could learn to weld from a great welder who maybe cant see anymore but that doesnt mean he cant teach you how to weld. However i dunno if i would take swing advice from an able bodied man who cant swing. He said himself tiger just picks and chooses what to take from him and what to leave behind

As far as teachers with good swings...those who can do, those who can't, teach.

I really hate that saying. I wouldn't ever go to a teacher if he wasn't able to implement his practices. If he can't explain it to himself, how the heck's he going to explain it to me?

I've yet to go to a swing coach that couldn't do it as you say. I've been to some who couldn't teach though :drinks:

Wayne Defransesco is that you??? :cheesy: I couldn't agree more TM Fan!! I think that it is very important for the PGA Professional to continue to hone their own game to help others improve. We have all of this continuing education book work crap that we have to do, but what about playing golf. You have to pass the PAT once, and then never have to play golf again. I think you should have to pass the PAT or some equivalent every five years. I hate it that the Golf Professional has become nothing more than a shirt salesman. Sorry OT.

I would agree with you however that good players cannot always teach. :drinks:

So Harvey P. should have hung it up after he couldn't play or demonstrate what he was teaching anymore? I know of at least 2 or 3 reasonably good PGA pros that would disagree.

At some point, you have to use a little common sense there Sandy. As long as a golf professional is in reasonable health they should still be able to play. No excuses. Playing and demonstrating are a part of teaching the game.
