Scotty Cameron Studio Stainless

I saw this putter on eBay and it looks like it is in decent shape. Can any you of Cameron experts tell if this is a fake? Obviously the cover is not a Cameron, but I have a couple of real Cameron covers I can use instead.

My instincts tell me that it's real, but I'm definitely no expert...I would ask for a better picture of the sole.

Did the seller tell you the length and weight specs?

My therory is that it was probably a 35" shaft that was cut down to 34-1/4" (I think that is a 35" on the sole). I understand that this supposedly throws off the balance of the club, but I have a 330 gram TeI3 Newport 2 that I cut down from 35" to 34" and I love it. My concern is that the opening bid is $149.99, and not one person has bid on it yet (it has been up for auction for a few days). That's why I was wondering if others who can spot a fake are seeing something I'm not. Maybe it's because the seller is offering free shipping, but no returns?? I checked his history, and it doesn't look like he is selling a bunch of these, which is a sure sign that something is awry. It's hard to tell a fake from just some photos. If I get it, I'll give it the magnet test, then I'll know for sure.

There is no magical balance that shortening a putter will throw off. As you stated, you actually liked the lower SW. Some people will, some on't. But the idea that everyone has the same magical balance preference is wrong.

I have the same putter but mine is the standard weight version of 340g and is 35" (The 340g versions did not have the weight stamped at the bottome like the 330g models did so that's how you tell the difference). They also made the 35" in 330g so it's just a matter of preference. Looks legit but usually if you're playing the putter at closer to 34" better to have a heavier head weight.

If you wait long enough, could be better deals where the putter has not been modified

I have the 340g version, and the weight is stamped on the sole. If your Studio Stainless does not have "340g" stamped on the sole, it's actually 330 grams. That was the standard weight...

Agreed, I have a 34" and it's stamped 340g...std for 35" was 330g, 33" was 350g

Only question I have then is why some of the 35" models are stamped 330g and some are not stamped at all...I was told it was because some of the 35" models are 340g which was the standard so they only identified the weight on the ones that were not...sorry for the bad info

I could be completely wrong but my understanding is that some of the earlier ones had 35/330 stamped on it...which was the 'standard'. There were also some 34/340's released as well and these would be stamped accordingly. There were also some 33/350's as well but these are even more rare....at least in my experience.

there were actually 2 generations of studio stainless putters. the first year there was only a 35" / 330g head and as a result, there was no need to stamp and distinguish different headweights and lengths. starting from the second year, they released the 34 /340 and 33 / 350 versions of the putter and as a result, stamped in the weight and lengths so that there would be a distinction in the product. the second generation also has the scotty and cameron paintfilled in which the first generation didnt.

If your putter doesn't have "340g" engraved on the sole, it does not weigh 340 grams. It weighs 330 grams. But as long as it's working, you shouldn't be disappointed.

Final follow-up on my original post. I ended up winning this putter on eBay, and it's definitely a real Scotty Cameron Studio Stainless. It is near perfect condition (I don't know why some people don't take better pics for their auctions!), and a strong magnet wouldn't stick to it. The grip is a little worn, but the putter head looks barely used. The face is almost perfect. The length is exactly the same as my current Newport 2 TeI3 so it feels really "familar" including the swing weight. Can't wait to try it out this weekend. Thanks to everyone for all your feedback posts. I feel a lot more educated about these putters now for sure!

you guys cant always go by what you see on the scotty website...go under putter archives and look up ANY of the studio stainless 2.5 newports. NOT ONE of them show the name "SCOTTY" on the 'santa fe style' neck, when im pretty sure they ALL have it on....
