pain in my left arm

i recently started getting pain in my left arm, but haven't done anything strenuous or different (swing wise). I feel the pain after about 10 shots on the range and it's at the top of my forearm (close to the elbow). The pai doesn't go away, until late at night. I also have sharp pains in my left wrist that I have been trying to heal. I typically stretch it before I hit ball/play, but after stretching, the pain goes away. Are the pains in my arm/wrist due to tendinitis? what can i do? thanks

If you hold your arm out and your palm facing the sky, are the pains in your elbow on the same side as your pinky or your thumb?

i held my arm out, palm up, and the pain is on the side of my thumb. I bought an aircast kit for my arm and have been wearing it for the entire day. I can actually feel the release of tension and pressure off of the "pain area". But i'm not sure if it's from the band being wrapped around the area and dulling the pain, or if this aircast really works (supposedly it's suppose to release the pressure/tension off the tendons and allow the tendons to heal). Any other suggestions??? Thanks for the help

Sounds like tennis elbow. Is there tenderness when you touch it as well? The best treatment is REST. Don't golf, don't play tennis, don't lift weights.

 

Secondly, take anit inflammatories like naproxen (aleve) and ibproferin (advil) as long as your stomach can handle it. Apply ice every day for 30 minutes at least and that will help calm down the inflammed tendons.

 

Air casts sort of work, but I'd still do the above mentioned things. Also, SEE YOUR DOCTOR. That's the best piece of advise I can give you.

it's only tender after i've either hit balls or played a round. otherwise, like right now, i feel no pain. you can press on it as hard as you want, i don't have the same throbbing pain that i would get after i play. I'm gonna stay off of it for a while and use icy hot/anti-inflam./ice bags. thanks for the help.

I may be wrong, but it looks like you're impacting the ground pretty hard with your irons.

 

I had similar wrist problems where after practicing my left wrist would almost be immovable.

You don't want to risk anything so i would be best to see a physio or doctor.

But yeah in that area it could well be golfers/tennis elbow. If you think it might be then go and see a pyhsio who will get you off golf for quite a while, have you stretching and doing some wrist curls.

thanks for the help guys, i have been wearing the aircast everyday for the past week and also taking naproxen. I played once and hit balls once (which is very limited golf for me considering I usually hit balls and play everyday) and have noticed that the pain has subdued quite a bit. Actually it's almost non exisitence. I'm not going to push it, so I'll keep my routine going until I feel no pain.

 

 

I think you're right furrankee. I remember the pain started during a demo day that I went to. Actually, I was going to practice at the range, and watched the demo day set up while i was practicing. I had been having problems with my long irons and noticed that I was trying to "pick" at it instead of hitting down into it. I started catching everything flush. I hit down quite a bit on my mid and short irons but my long irons I noticed that I haven't been. So, that day I practiced my long irons for quite a while and was hitting everything solid and straight. On my way out, the titleist rep stopped me and talked to me. He saw me down on the far end practicing and wondered what kind of irons i was hitting. To make a long story short, I was out there for an extra 3 hours (already practiced for 2.5 hours) hitting titleist irons and comparing them to my mizunos.

I had the same problem when I flexed my arm too much at address and (really) tried hard to keep the arm straight throughout the swing. Once I focused more on being relaxed the pain went away (combined with rest).
