Flex for a LD stick

Hi guys, i'm new to the forum. I have been interested in ld for a little bit of time now. I am 18 and my ss is 110-115 on the course(obviously that is not long drive speed but is with out any real strength training or ld training). Back on topic I have been reading some of the posts and i hear guys using stiff and single x stiff shafts with ss of 125-130+. Just curios, i usually use a 1" tipped stiff or a light x in my drivers. It seems like for regular golf that is a fairly normal flex for my ss. Whats up with the whippy shafts for the amped up ss? Again i am ignorant on the LD but am very interested in it so I appreciate any insight.

tempo-timing-transition is really the only way you can get away with using a weak flex shaft
you want to use the softest flex you can control
obviously with weaker flexes control can become an issue so it isnt for everyone
guys use anything from S to 4X in their clubs-kind of like lofts varying from say 4* all the way up to 9*

I'm new to LD but my understanding thus far is that a softer flex shaft is easier to load and acts more like a bull whip than a stiffer shaft. In LD you're just trying to hit a 40 yard wide Grid--and it doesn't matter much if you put a couple of balls out of play as long as you catch one great one. On the course sometimes you're trying to fit the ball around a corner into a 15-20 yard wide landing area and you need more control.

What PGW said is right on the money. I usually hit it pretty straight so i use X and XX House fo Forged shafts. If you can hit an s or x and keep it in the grid then why not use it. Most guys use XX and XXX for control reasons. I usean X in my playng driver wit a SS of about 120.

I would rather use a bit too stiff shaft rather than soft. Too soft shafts tend to give me too much spin.

too much spin also depends on a few factors-
your attack angle/plane -hitting down on the ball-toe/heel
and also depends on shafts-
some shafts you can go with whatever flex you want and spin is still going to be there
loft also can play a factor
that's where the testing comes in
I say it all the time-everyone is different-you have to find 'your' cutoff
most would be surprised at how weak of flexes some actually use

I play my regular driver x stiff lt shaft (115-120 swing speed). my long driver i play a HOF LT XX or XXX depending on the time of year. i am in Ohio so my swing timeing usually takes till june to kick in gear.

I wouldnt so much worry about the flex of the shaft as i would the bend point. If you can lauch the ball with the proper trajectory instead of getting a xx shaft with a low bend point and you balloon it up evertime what is the point of the flex? Lets say you get a shaft with a high bend point and you fire just a stiff shaft you will bomb it.
