Ping G425 irons question

I’m in the market for a new set of irons (currently have 40 year old ping eye 2’s)

 

looking at g425’s. 
 

am I crazy or are used set prices basically the same as new sets from places like golf discount,twg, carls golfland, etc

 

$680ish new….low $600’s used?

I doubt Ping will be offering the G425 irons much longer, the current discount may indicate they are trying to get rid of inventory. Definitely grab a new set if that's the club you want, the price is right.

You can still custom order G425 from Golf Galaxy in left handed.

You’re not crazy. The online resellers sell used Ping stuff at fairly high prices.  

Ping controls the discounts and pricing for new equipment.
Ping is notoriously strict with their retail partners on undercutting new equipment price points. 
But, you can still get new G425 irons for about $800. 
If you go used, Callaway Golf Preowned in the “Other Brands” section is a great option. Also, the Classified section on this site is a good choice but be sure to check the seller’s feedback and listing history.

I'm not sure if Ping overproduced G425 iron sets or what, but a few months back, when I bought a set, I was surprised by how many were available through high volume eBay sellers.  I paid $531 + tax & shipping for a near new set - 5-UW.  Since Ping prohibits companies selling new sets for a discount, companies take the clubs to their range bay, smack around some cheap range balls, leaving ball marks on the faces, then sell the clubs as "used".   My set had the Artos sensor grips removed too.  Anyway, it's a good time to buy a set (or it was a few months ago, anyway.)

Yes, I'm sure you can, when I mentioned inventory I was referring to the clubheads, I would be surprised if they are still being made.

If you can get the setup you need for $680 new, jump on that. Good deal.

 

Used prices on everything right now sucks. Second Swing seems to grab up everything and their prices are a joke. If you have a bit of time post up a WTB on here. I’ve gotten hooked up in a big way on a couple purchases here that way. 👍🏼

I just picked up a new set from online retailer 4-UW.  Great sticks and good price compared to new crazy prices.

If you buy used, make sure you get the serial number on the iron hosel and call Ping to verify the spec's. You'll be surprised how many sets of Pings that I was interested in and called Ping only to find out that the clubs are shorter or longer than listed or the lofts are way off.

I'm guessing they will be replaced soon, so now is def the time to buy if you are still looking for 425s.  Can probably find a great deal around...
