Refurb, Making inserts

I have decided to try and refurb one of the very soggy Persimmons I got recently. I have managed to separate head and shaft but will need to make a new face. What do those of you who refurb use to construct inserts?

Hi,
You can use pour in place epoxy (add a color of your choice), ABS plastic (cycolac), fiber, phenolic, aluminum. Since your trying to restore it as close to original, what was in it? I have a lot of the listed inserts. Be glad to send you one. Need to know color(s) and top width of insert, bottom width of insert. Hope this helps.

It was a plain white insert, that when I removed it (had to cut it as the screws were wasted) there was a strong smell of menthol....some weird '50s compound i assume. will get the measurements how much for an insert? PM me

Cost is $1.00 plus shipping. It has a preformed angle of approximately 12*, 5/16" thick, overall length 17/8", top 1 1/4", bottom 2". I also have just straight square blanks. Same cost.

Jim have you got a list of inserts that you own, I have a box full of inserts in colours red,black blue, white these are plain colours and some with hole in center for" firing pin " and 1 in black / white keyhole ,

maybe we could exchange some inserts ?

Great job removing the shaft from the club. Hosel looks pristine. I bet once you get a fresh insert in there and a sole plate, that'll look great.

I was surprised at how easy things came out. Both heel screws just trurned straight out (maybe wet wood helped) and the soleplate screws were relatively easy. The face screws had to be drilled out but it needed a new face anyway. Plan is to let it dry for a month, then put a new face in then see how much of the back Ill have to take off to meke the sole plate sit flush. As for a shaft it has a True temper brown coated shaft in there but this has a chip on the paint and it has gone rusty on the exposed metal, i don't know wether to trust it or just get a new shaft.... any suggestions?

At this point in time the fiber (vulcanized) insert situation is "tenuous" at
best. Some of the old time guys still have some but it is not easy to find in
any volume anymore. Small amounts are available from time to time, and certainly
individual inserts.

Cost efficiencies and workability/technology have affected the situation for
supply too. All of the guys that build the old time clubs today use Cycolac, or
in some circumstances Phenolic - but no fiber. Tad Moore recently made some
hickory Driver/Brassies with fiber inserts - but he is the only one that has done
it recently.

Any fiber you find today in bulk was made many years ago.

But as Dave Wood told me and I think he is right - if the need was to somehow
reappear (the old woods were in demand again etc), the supply would be there
very quickly.

I checked into having some made a few years ago (and there is a post on this board
somewhere), but it was cost prohibitive unless you were going to mass produce.
