Looking for a private club in Oakland County, MI

I am a young professional who is looking for a private club to join in the southeast Michigan.

 

_ The course needs to challenging for a scratch player

_ Diverse membership that enjoys golf, down the earth members,

Hi Pat,

Oakland is a great choice, there are a lot of great other courses as well. Indianwood in Lake Orion, Wyndgate in Oakland Township, Birmingham CC in Birmingham, Red Run in Royal Oak, TPC in Dearborn, Oakland University in Rochester.

Indianwood has 2 courses and is hosting the 2012 US Senior Open and has hosted 2 Womans US Opens. Wyndgate has some great holes and a few silly holes, Birmingham is nice, not really exciting, Old Time CC. Red Run is kind of boring, but has some great golfers there. OU has 2 course and is where Mickelson and Janzen practice when they come to town, TPC is a great course plus the network ( didn't you join there?).

I belong to IW along with TPC and could not be happier with both clubs, and i plan on joining OU this year as well. Good luck, PM me if you need more info, i know members at all these clubs and more.

Meadowbrook CC is probably closest.....great club.....fast greens.....and good membership.....located in Northville near 8 mile and I275...

Meadowbrook is the nicest in the Novi area but you could also look at Walnut Creek and Plum Hollow. Pine Lake CC as well as Orchard Lake CC arent too far away either and Barton Hills is also an option but closer to Ann Arbor.

Detroit Golf Club should be part of your consideration set. PM me. A good percentage of our players are 5 hcps or better...great bunch of members, very down to earth! Our club pro lives in Novi...about a 25-30 minute drive, if that.

I am in the same position as you. Live in the Southfield area and will be looking at joining a club shortly. I've done a little bit of research and here is what I've found. Meadowbrook seems like a great course and has dropped its initiation to $10,000 from $56,000 based solely on Oakland Hills dropping theirs to $60,000 from $110,000. I'm guessing these are both class A full memberships and not sure if there is a reduction for junior memberships. Walnut Creek is pretty close to you and has 27 holes. Plum Hollow has a deal going right now that is $3500 (intermediate membership, includes dues, range fees and more through April 2011). I actually like Red Run and they play tournaments there regularly (Michigan Am). Another close course is Orchard Lake country club. They just moved the Michigan Open there last year and is a pretty good course except for a few holes IMHO.

Checked out the website just out of curiosity - looks like a great club and a pretty sweet deal to join. If I lived in the Detroit area this would definitely be on my list!

Some people say Frankli Hills is the best golf course in the area. Do not know anything else about it though.

golfed meadowbrook years ago with a member.... thought it was a impressive club then for the initiation fee.... but for $10k, I would love to be a member there

FYI, Meadowbrook dropped its initiation fee [u]by[/u] $10K....from $56k to $46K. I believe you may have read the same article that I did in a Carl's Golfland publication that discussed local private clubs. You can check the club's website under Memberships to confirm this.

I am a little Bias but Dearborn CC is where it is. $400 per month to. Best greens you will ever putt on now they roll them.

Love all the other courses mentioned but I like DCC. Donald Ross, Albert Kahn clubhouse and Henry Ford History.

Ohh yea... more WRX members are there than any other!!!

I know this is a VERY old thread but thought id still inform you about franklin hills. I worked there on the grounds crew for 3 years. I also worked at Oakland hills in 2008 when they had the PGA championship. It is definitely not as nice as Oakland. But it is VERY nice. One issue that could come up tho is that it's a Jewish-only club. So that could be an issue for a lot of people. Also it costs about the same as Oakland which could also be an issue for most people. But if you have A LOT of money and are of Jewish descent, it's perfect.
