So it turns out I have an in with someone who can get me on Troon Country Club on Mondays. I have played Monument in the past and was curious what the private course was like?

I went out there one day accidently thinking it was Troon North. Damn GPS sent me there instead. Range, putting green and clubhouse looked pure. Hook a brother up and bring me with!

I'd love to play that track! In all seriousness though a friend of mine played there last fall and said it was a really nice track and nobody was out there when he played 36. Said greens were slick and smooth...

I got to play Troon CC for the first time last summer. While it didn't "knock my socks off," it certainly worthy of a play or three. Some very good holes, interesting use of natural features of the property, and top conditioning with nice bent greens. Fairly generous off the tee and with options around the greens, it is a good test but won't beat you up too bad. The back tees play 7031 yards, 73.7/148 which would seem a stern test. We played the 6650 71.7/137 tees and I hit but seven fairways and still managed an 88 (10hc) for my first time around. I was a bit disappointed that the routing was such that it seems Troon would be a very tough walk, which unfortunately, might bump it off my list of country clubs to join. ;)

I'm thinking Troon CC was the first Arizona design by Weiskopf and Morrish in the mid 80's. It cracked some of the top 100 lists for a while.

A couple of my favorite holes:

#14 "The Cliff" 440 yard par-4. The tee shot must be accurately played to the edge of a bluff that overlooks the green in a valley below.

#16 "The Gunsight" 347 yard par-4. From the tee, two large boulder outcrops form a slot thru which the fairway and green can be seen and the tee shot must negotiate.
