first time with 48" shaft. any advice?

so I have the js wanna be setup with the 7.5 9032ld head and 48" hof shaft in x. well, i hit it pretty well, really dig the lower spin on the driver head. but my only question is the mental approach to swing a club this long. I found that if i make relaxed smooth swings, i killed it. as soon as i tried to muscle it like i would a 45" shaft, dispersion got crazy. is it the kind of thing that you need to swing a 48 smooth, or is it a practice thing that at some point you can rip it as hard as you want? i'll tell you this, after swing that club, when i went back to my 45" club, it felt like a 3 wood, and i picked up a few miles per hour because it felt so light and easy to rip. so if nothing else, the 48" shaft is great for getting your timing.

such long shafted drivers certainly make you appreciate tempo since they are so hefty to swing. when I first started with one, I had to close my stance sooooo much to hit it straight... ended up just selling it though because I had it during college play and hitting it straight was more of a concern... but now I'm out and ready for the long ball again!

Keep weight on R.H. foot as long as possible when attacking, attack with right side keeping LHS in check. One's right side has to move three times faster than one's left. Keep everything behind the ball and utilise a full and fast follow through.

If you ever watch a long drive event I'm not sure smooth is what you will see. I have a little different thought process about the swing than most. The entire swing takes just over a second and the downswing is less than a 10th of that second. I don't feel that you can consciously manipulate the club or your body in that timeframe. With that said you might want to try to focus on these thoughts. Make sure you complete your backswing. I have noticed in myself and others that when you try to "step on it" you may shorten your backswing. Next think of letting the club drop then floor it. I try to feel the club really set before I go the other direction. Last focus on swinging out and hitting your target instead of hitting the ball. Hope these help.

I agree with freegrace, I have two drivers with 47 in shafts with couterweighting 30 grams on one 34 grams on the other, have no problems getting it around for sure. I works try it.

I have the exact driver u have and at first i struggled with alot of toe shots i just kept hitting it until i finnaly got it and for the smooth swing thing i totally agree but when you swing fast and catch one oh boy does it go! I went back to normal driver the next after after having it out and your right it feels really small, ill just be keeping mine for range fun anyways have fun with it!

I went thru the longer dirver shaft fedish and have gone back to a 44" shaft. What I found was that 1) the longer the shaft the more critical tempo is and 2) I really had to flatten out my swing to accomadate the longer shaft. However I found that the really flatten swing would crep into my iron swing and really caused problems with my irons. I've found I may of lost 5 yds maybe a little more with the 44" shaft, but as long as I'm 260+ and accurate that is fine with me.

Length is a wonderful thing, but got me into trouble cuz I wasn't as accurate.
