Make Playing Easier

or make practice Harder
Hi

I have been playing for about 14 months now, and have got to a 19 handicap. The general opinion about my handicap is bandit!. I take this as a compliment of course.

I feel like im not playing my best right now, and that the time and practice ive put in on the practice green is sa ving my score, rather than hurting it. However, it is my normally quite sound long game which is why my handicap is not plummiting.

I wanted to know, how many people make practice harder than playing, and how you do this. I am considering buying a more workable or less forgiving club, so that i can hit it on the range, to know exactly how i hit hte shot, rather than my clubs giving me that bit of forgiveness (RAC LTs). I dont plan to play on course with this potential club, but if i hit this club well, then my irons should seem easier to hit.

Does anybody else do or has done this?
What irons are seen as hard to hit. Im looking at about a 6iron, as a midway point in irons.

Thanks all

I have to say i've often thought about doing this.

Browsing ebay for a "proper" blade and experimenting with with trying to develop my swing and ball striking with this, even if it's just for a few shots before hitting a few with my own, more forgiving irons.

I also heard on playing lessons with the pro's once (can't remember who it was now) that if you can

groove your 3 iron then you can hit anything!?!?

If anyone has got any experience with either of these practice techniques, positive or negative i'd be interested to hear them.

Some Famous cricket guy did this by using some different ball and bouncing it off a wall or something complicated.

Play rounds (full 18) starting off with only 2 or 3 clubs

so for rounds go

round 1: 3 wood,7 iron, putter

round 2: 3 wood, 7 iron, wedge, putter

etc, etc.

This makes you really creative with your clubs and you will become sooooooo consistent

I Haven't got my driver yet and my 2 wood i couldn't hit so i used 4 iron off the tee on every hole!

on the 10th i was 20 or 30 yards short of the green with 2 4 irons, now imagine with a driver.

Another good thing to do is to start off with the club that goes least distance and a putter and gradually keep building up till you can use your driver, now you wil appreciate that extra length and because of the consistency you will have gained along the way your approaches will be far better!

What is it about your long game that's failing you? Are you making poor contact? Or is it direction?

There are ways to practice that make it more similar to being on course. However, I don't know that just picking up a blade 6 iron and hitting a bucket of balls will help you cure your woes (trust me, I've been there).

Cheers for the Responses so far. I have not really got a problem with my long game ( as far as irons go). I dont carry A driver, because it seems to bring the bad swings out from withing me. I hit my 3wood or Resuce Mid far enough that i can reach all greens in regulation ( often and iron approach anyway).

The problem I have with my irons, doesnt really concern direction, or distance. I usually strike them well, however i want my swing to be where i hit ALL my clubs consistantly nearly all of the time. It feels like, the clubs i have at the moment (TM RAC LTs) have enough forgiveness there, so that when i do make a bad swing, it doesnt result in a troubled shot, maybe just miss it a few yards short etc.

I understand about the blade may not sort this out, and i am not planning on keeping it in my bag to play with. All i plan to do with it, is to use it as a training aid, to groove my swing kinda thing, and a harder to hit club (i know not all blades as hard to hit as others etc but thats for another time and forum) may result that these mis hits will be shown up the way they are meant to be. Therefore, in order to hit this club well, and hit it well consistantly, i will have to get my swing to a higher level, thus meaning i will become a better player.

Out Of interest, a Mizuno T Zoid True Blade? How would this rate amongst irons, e.g. hard to hit, forgiveness etc.

THanks Again
