Rusting Heads!!
Hello, I am wandering if anyone has had problems with there Miura irons having little rust spots on the face? My Tournament blades/202 irons have developed little rust spots on the face of a couple of heads.
The 202's have rust starting in the cavity of the back of the head as well. I keep my clubs VERY CLEAN AND DRY, I also use club glove head covers as well, I know I know tacky, but they work very well and my irons still look brand new!

Any help will be great,

Thanks guys

P.S. is this a warranty issue!

Thanx for replying guys.. I have been playing everyday at 5 am and I know i have tried my best to dry them off. But I am going to start taking them off for storage to totally dry just in case.
I have just never had this problem before, however I have never had a set like these to take care of. I like the no chatter look thats for sure.

As far as I know they Fertilizers are not over done, I am going to dry them more then usual from now on. I have just played so many forged and cast irons that have Never done this before, and yet i Baby the hell out of these stix and they rust... I am kinda disappointed because these are my dream clubs and they were a scat load of bucks.
Tonight when I cleaned them it looks as if some small stone have made tiny nicks in the face, and thats were they are rusting.

I have called Muira and left a message, so hopefully the come to bat for me. I am not expecting the world, but I feel this should not have happened, I have had the clubs for 2 seasons only.
The thing I love about this website is you get HONEST answers from guys who know.\

Thanx

I will let people know what they say!!

I have spoken to Bill at Miura in Vancouver , and I am going to take pics asap to get the process started on what is causing it. He said he has not had this problem so this will be looked at. I like making phone call to companies were you are totally taken care of, when there is a problem with the product. So hopefully it will be solved soon.
I will keep you in the loop as to what happens.
Good start to my rusty issue!!

Mild carbon steel heads will always be susceptible to corrosion once the chrome has any abrasion. Guessing from your screen name that you're in FL. So the heat and humidity will only make matters worse.

Best preventative measure I've found is to clean off any dirt post round and then give the heads a quick rub with a rag that has just a little WD-40 sprayed on it (you don't need much at all). I live in a warm, humid, seaside climate and I leave the iron covers on at all times and have no issues with rust as long as I do this after a round.

Hope this helps.

I got MX300's this year and this is my first set of forged. My friend heard them clank together in my back set and was surprised I did not have head covers.

Mizuno website suggests not using them due to trapping mositure, but banging around isn't cool either.

I may try the quick wipe down with WD40 after cleaning.

Thanx for the info

I've ha d a couple different sets of Miura"s and live on the Pacfic and have not had any corrosion on my Miura heads. I'd be really pissed if that happened to me, I can't stand any rust on any of my clubs except my lob wedge.

I feel for you. Nobody likes to see their pride and joy banged up. However, IMHO, the damage you have there is perfectly normal. The spots where there is surface corrosion appear to have been subjected to some of physical damage - it looks like grit has jammed between the ball and club face at impact. Once that nickel chrome layer is damaged you have exposed the mild steel forging to the environment and mild steel rusts better than most metals. It's unfortunate, but like anything in life, you can't have always have your cake and expect to eat it as well. The things we love about forged golf clubs mean that they have to be made from a material that is suitable for the manufacturing process, and that leaves you with mild steel.

If Miura help you out, that's great, and further testament to their great customer service, but this is really not something to worry about.

I have set of Scratch irons that did the same thing as your Miura's and its from the minor and the headcovers. Once I saw it on my a couple of my irons I realized that it came from the covers. Now after everytime I play I just make sure to pull the covers off until I play again and put them back on before walking out the door.

The rust you have is not bad at all, you could possible wipe it of w/ the right cleaner. Mine came off.

Good luck!

EDIT: Try wiping it off w/ some hot water and a wash cloth. Really rub hard and it should come off (really hard). Then dry and leave the covers off until you play again.

I have just received my email from Yoshitaka Miura himself!!
And he said it is due to the chrome cracking, most likely from a rock or stone, I figured this as well!! He further says it will not effect the performance of the club.He has also not seen this often but when they do this is the case.
Again it doesn't, In all the 30 yrs of playing golf and ten as a C.P.G.A. pro I have played ALOT OF CLUBS!! And I played an practiced more than most do in a lifetime, I have never had this happen to any of my irons. Wether it was forged or cast.
So to say the least I am a bit pissed! But oh well, not much I can do!!

Thanx for all the help guys and I am going to start to wipe with the WD 40 on a continual basis as well as leave the covers of when not in use.
