Atlanta walking course

I recently moved to Atlanta and I am looking for a good course to walk. The courses I have played either have dramatic inclines/declines or you need a shuttle to get from green to tee. The best I have found is Coosa CC in Rome but that is 1.5 hours away and private. I am looking for something within 45min and public. Any suggestions???

Coosa is a great walking course, good classic layout. What part of town are you in?

The layout at Coosa is ideal, anything like that around Atlanta? I am in Brookhaven.

Are you looking public or private? I know Coosa is private, but what are you wanting a place to play or a place to join?

In Brookhaven, Capital City is something liek that.....but you need to get into Capital City Club first.

You are going to have to find a private course to join to get your walk on. Berkley is a good option for a good price.

What are the fees like at North Berkley??

Crystal Falls is a fantastic track.

Where in Atlanta are you? If NE, then Georgia Club on 316 located between Lawrenceville and Athens, allows walking (carry only, no push carts) any time and any day. This is a great course and they have 27 holes.

For downtown Atlanta, not a fancy course and not long, but good greens, try Bobby Jones, but play early or you will get behind lots of hackers and spend 6 hours.

I believe one of the two Stone Mountain courses also allows walking - Stonemont? Not sure if this is restricted to certain times or days. Again, play early if you want to get around in a reasonable time.

Another choice is Mystery Valley in Dekalb County, near Stone Mountain. Good layout but not a fancy place. Above average for a muni.

Thanks for all the feedback. I actually live less then a mile away from Capital City, but joining there isn’t in the foreseeable future. I have walked Chastain a few times, but the back 9 is a hike. Charlie Yates is another fun track to walk.

Ideally I would like to join a club that has reasonable fees, a good walking course, and convenient. However, I know that basically doesn’t exist in Atlanta.

I am expected to play Mystery Valley next week. I will have to check out Crystal Falls and the GA Club.
