DC/MD/VA - courses, instructors, simulators?

Hey guys,

A bit of a blast from the past, but I am slowly getting back into golf. I will save equipment questions for another thread, but I wanted to get some recommendations on courses, instructors, and indoor video simulators in the northern Virginia and DC area. I don't mind a short drive to Maryland for the perfect set up.

Instructors - I traditionally preferred 'green grass' instruction and still do, but I appreciate the chance to drop into a simulator now and then to see the difference between what I feel and what I am actually doing (the distance between the two ebbs and flows like the tide).

As far as courses go - I don't think I will play enough to join a club, but rundown on good courses for a practice round, and a few 'can't miss options' that I should play at least once would be great!

Finally - and I know this is a tough one - are there any public/semi-private but open to the public courses with quality short game practice facilities?

Not much input on the questions but I am in the same boat (actually im a beginner golfer) and would love some responses. I have only played some of the northern va courses: pohick and osprey both seemed great for a novice like me.

University of Maryland Golf Course is a great place to play, not that far of a drive from NoVa (a lot of my friends from Alexandria/Arlington drive in for a regular 4some there). Its a quality track that has been running hard and fast, and its much cheaper then some of the other area courses (even though it held a Nationwide tour even a couple of months ago) and its open to the public (you don't have to be a student or alumni to play). Check it out.
