PING VS KZG

Are comparable in quality these two brands? My question this between the Ping G15 and the KZG OC II. They are the same of tolerant and appropriate for a handicap 30?

The G15 will be a bit easier to hit. I would probably buy the KZGs in your position.

You will take a beating on resale with the KZGs compared to the PINGs if that's a consideration.

I would go with the Pings, get fitted and hopefully the fitter will really dial you in. But that is just me.

Like the above it would probably be a matter of cost as most KZG's are sold by clubfitters who could get you a proper set up.

KZG specializes in the forged market, they are the softest and best made (in my opinion, although I still go back and forth with my old Mizuno's) so I'm not sure how their cast clubs are. This is the exact opposite in Ping, they have only made cast clubs forever and are now only bringing their first set of forged clubs to market. There are benefits to both sets; With a KZG set you should be getting a great, fully customized set exactly to your specs. Every set of irons that they sell are perfectly balanced and put together by master clubmakers. With ping you are getting a mostly off the rack set of clubs but by a company who really knows how to make a set of amazing cast clubs. This is a hard decision but you are definitely getting great great clubs no matter what.

As someone else said,you'll get better resale value with the Ping's if you tend to change clubs often.

No one has mentioned that the op is a 30 handicapper?

If these were my only two club choices, I would push him towards the Ping's. The KZG's are beautiful clubs, but they are forged and meant for a better player, not for a guy with a 30 handicap. I would want him in a properly fit and most forgiving club in the shop.

A forged blade, even a game improvement forged, can be a real bear compared to something like the Ping for a guy shooting in the 100's. I would want my 30 handicapper to see some improvement right off the bat, which should promote excitement in the game, while he builds his swing. Then, when the swing is built, the handicap is down, sell the Ping's and recoup most of the dough and then go get that beautiful set of KZG's.

Just to add, when I was selling clubs, there is no way I would recommend a club like the KZG to a person with a 30 handicap, unless there is something I am missing here? If you asked me, it sounds like a salesman is getting some good spiffs. Just my opinion.

You can play, and learn to play better with either.

Get the OC II's used and have a clubfitter fit them to you. That would probably be 1/4 of the cost of either set new.

PING clubfitting is one of the best out there, combined with high re-sale values. Even if they are a little more money, I'd go with PING irons.

The OP said he is looking at the OCII's from KZG, a club specifically made for high handicappers

Copy that, I must have misread. I would still swing towards the pings though and build the swing, more resale value amongst a wider audience, and then move into something more like the KZGs. But that is just me.

I play KZG forged irons and though I like them very well, I wouldn't advise a 30 handicapper to get one of their cast sets. They will lose their value too quickly compared to the PIngs. And as you improve and your swing improves, you may want to try other clubs. Trade in value may be important at that point.

Normally I'd advise buying a used set of KZG and having them adjusted to fit your swing, but you'd have to know your specs. It might be just as simple to go through the fitting session and have the Pings made to fit you from the get-go if initial cost is not an issue.
