Golf suggestions for the Philadelphia area

Next weekend

Headed out to Philadelphia for a quick weekend and wanted to get a round in. Any suggestions? Maybe some suggestions for public and private.

For public courses I'd vote Glen Mills at the top and maybe Hartefield National a very distant second.

Private courses in the area are a plenty but some are tough to get out on so I'll leave Pine Valley, Merion, Aronimik, Phila CC and the Cricket Club out of it (though I have gotten onto all but Pine Valley):
Springhaven, Rolling Green, Waynesborough, and Llanerch are all nice places that access may be easier than the high profile courses above. Probably a few more but I am drawing a blank for more.

Would you rather play any of the Privates outside of Pine Valley, Merion, and Aronimink more than Glenn Mills? I know of those 3, and finding it difficult to get on those 3 this go around. I've heard great things about Glenn Mills and I most will probably play there. I just have a few contacts that might be able to help on the Private golf side, if they are worth it compared to Glenn Mills.

The only two I've played this year other than Aronimink are Llanerch and Rolling Green, of the two I'd opt for Llanerch. Great classic style layout that plays a whole lot harder than the 6750 or so yards it plays from the tips. Some generous landing areas require nasty hard approach shots to greens at different elevations with deep bunkers, other fairways are very tight and make you consider an iron/hybrid leaving a long second shot. Greens when I played were rolling about a 12.5-13 if I had to guess and with only one three jack it was a good day.

Really though, Glen Mills is a wonderful public track and probably one you would want to play if you keep track of playing the top 50 or 100 public courses in the country. I'm headed out to the Ballyowen at Crystal Springs on Friday and am really excited.
