I downloaded this app ($1.99) and used it this weekend as a test. I currently have a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide and there were no issues with the installation.

 

There are lots of courses already mapped

 

The user can map their own course from satellite images from their PC

 

This app is not as full featured as some but, you can get distances to hazards (provided they were mapped), front, middle and back of the green.

 

One can zoom in on the satellite image and get exact distance to anywhere on the course. This feature is somewhat dependent on the connection sppeed because it loads the images on the fly

 

Searching and downloading courses is very fast

 

I played a 4.5 hour round with the screen as bright is could go, data connection was on and screen timed out after 30 seconds. After the round I had more than 50% of the battery left.

 

The screen was very easy to see in the sunlight and accurate when comapared to other GPS units in my group.

 

If you have an android phone and just want distances with no other stuff, check this app out.

 

FYI - Skydroid plans on rolling out some improvements and there is no annual fee.

I downloaded it last week and loved it for use in Fla while down there. I came back to Georgia and my course is not listed so I am trying to map my course but their mapping feature is not as easy as some others I have used. That being said. $2 is a great deal.

For $1.99 I think I will give it a shot, maybe ditch the skycaddie for next year....

I have been using it for a few months now and I have to agree, you cannot beat the $1.99 price. There are a lot of courses mapped here in the Nashville, TN area however a couple of them have been way off the mark (15-25 yards). I could be that someone mapped it and didn't know how to set it up but I am going to go online and make my own for my records.

I have Golf GPS Programs on my HTC Incredible, FreeCaddie and SkyDroid. FreeCaddie is a barebones program however the yardages have been extremely accurate. The one option that gives SkyDroid the advantage is the hole view you can access as well as the "trouble" yardages. I use SkyDroid if I don't know the course all that well and FreeCaddie if all i need is yardages.

FYI, FreeCaddiePro gives you satellite overhead views downloaded from Google Maps, with the distance markers, etc.

JCLJorgenson, thank you for the update. I will check out the Pro version of the app since I have found that FreeCaddie gives me more accurate numbers. I was trying it out on a few courses around here before bought the program. But that filled my only problem with the app. Good to know that it is available.
