Questions about my "new" MP-14's?

Offset and center of gravity
Google failed me :drinks:.

1) How much offset is on each of my "new" MP-14's? Looking at them at 2nd swing, they appeared to have quite a bit more than my 990's. When I got on the hitting board there, the guy spec'd me out for a 5 iron at 63.5* which seems really upright...I'm 6'0 and have a 1 plane swing so this was a bit of a shock. The impact tape said to go even more upright but I said 2.5* was enough. When Ping fits players, the most common fitting is 2* upright so I'm not that different, but the average golfer can't keep his posture either.

When I got on the range, the divots were pretty uniform, so the lie angle isn't too far off. However, it's very difficult for me to hit a fade - is this because of the offset?

2) Where are the COG and sweetspot located on the face?

From what I remember the MP-14's had about 2* flatter lie than most other irons of the time. I used standard Mizuno lie angle but had to go a degree or two flatter in just about everything else. That is a sweet set of sticks you picked up and should be easily bendable to whatever lie you need them to be. I wish I still had my set. As far as the sweetspot, I think it is just toward the heel.

I think that some of the earlier longer hosel Mizuno blades had the COG very slightly closer to the heel, but the MP-14 had a marginally shorter hosel, like the MP-29, so it really should be right there about where you're eye wants to strike the ball on the horizontal. On the vertical, the design of the muscleback puts it lower than the MS/MP 11 and 9.

Lol, that was a very useful site when I was mulling over whether to purchase the clubs :drinks:

The offset is what really concerns me now since the COG question seems to have been answered.

Think the shafts could be too stiff? Didn't you have S300's in your 990's? In an attempt to square the face with a shaft that is too stiff, "flipping" with the hands can occur as well as pulls. But you knew that... :drinks:

That Aldila in your Retro Raylor is a limp noodle of a shaft. If that shaft fits you properly, then I have to think the 6.5 Rifles might be a tad stiffer than what you're used to.

The 990's had their share of offset.

When it comes right down to it though--

They're "new" clubs. Give 'em a chance... :drinks:

The 990's were never fit for me, I just ordered them that way. That was 6 years ago and I was thinking about reshafting them anyway with X100's. The 6.5's are comparable to the S400 from what I understand.

I thought the shaft was too weak when I first got it. The reason that I haven't reshafted is 1) I haven't found a good replacement, and 2) I don't hit it poorly enough or frequently enough to warrant $75 on a new shaft. It's basically my "this is a terrible lie and I have 220 yds to the green" club.

That's true, but it wasn't as visible.

Will do, sir :drinks:
