Hello GolfWRX world!

Recommended Posts

Come take a look and get to know me!
Well, I was thinking about it and figured that it was about time to say my hello on here (seeing as I have been a member for a little while now).

I guess I should start off with a little bit about me.. My name is Ben and I am currently a senior in college, boy I'm getting old... I started playing golf the fall of my senior year of high school, I turned down a starting QB spot on the team because I wanted to give golf a try. The first time I went out to play with my dad and shot a 125, which well to be honest got me quite hooked. My dad basically told me that I was dumb for even trying to make the golf team and that I should just stick to something that would let me get into college. This really got to me, and so after four weeks of working as hard as I could on my game, I shot 87, 85 for qualifying and made the team! The golf season for Northern Illinois is in the fall, so I played from probably late July until up until September, and after that managed to get a scholarship to play golf in college down in Kansas.

My lowest 9 hole score was a 32 (4 under par) at Prairie Isle near Crystal Lake Illinois, and my lowest round ever has been an even par 71. I love golf and it hooked me ever since I started playing a short few years ago. Golf is just amazing and I really want to do what it takes to get my game to the next level. I seem to putt and hit my irons well, but well to be honest I don't think I can fix things unless I figure out a good driver swing. I think that I am about average off the tee (280-290) but I just seem to be unable to find a consistent shot shape (irons straight but driver.. army golf some days). I was blessed this year to have an internship down in Texas and finally was able to get my first real set of clubs. I am the type guy who likes to dress to his own tune on the course, however I don't go too obnoxious and I hope that one day I can design clothes for some golf companies.. I have many ideas and drawings.. just afraid no one will like them! Anyways...

I have always been a driver ho.. but this is what I have in my bag right now...

Driver- 8.5* Taylormade Superfast TP (Tour Head) with Diamana Kai'li 70x (spined)
Hybrids- 17* Adams SuperHybrid with accra dymatch rt s2 70x m5 (spined), Titleist 985h 19* with ProForce v2 90x shaft
Irons- 2010 Titleist AP 2's 4-pw Project X 6.5 x-stiff shafts (Spined)
Wedges- Titleist Vokey Spin Milled 48* (bent to 50), Spin Milled Vokey 56*, and Spin Milled Vokey 60*
Putter- Scotty Cameron California Monterey

The Best course I have ever gotten to play would be a toss up between Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson Kansas(near where I play in college), or The Ritz Carlton at Dove Mountain in Tuscon Arizona. Got to play there two weeks after the Accenture last year because our team is good friends with the manager out there. What an amazing course it is!

I look forward to getting to talk to you all more and sorry this was so long!
God Bless and Happy New Year!!

Ben Welcome and thanks for the Intro.

Wow that's some improvement going from 125 to making the college team in just a few years. Obviously you're a very good athlete if you had QB offers. I'm thinking this game is probably more enjoyable as you aren't faced with 330 pounders wanting to grind you into the ground :) Of course an OB tee shot can be just as frustrating as an interception, I'm sure.

Good luck with your game and your design career. Keep us posted on any exciting developments in either one.

Happy New Year

I don't think you are giving him enough credit...... If I read this correctly, in his senior year his dad took him golfing for the first time..... he shot 125 and had a blast... his dad told him not to quit football because he wasn't good enough in golf to get a scholarship..... he spent a few weeks and got his scores down to 87/85 and made a golf team in Kansas which led to a scholarship.....

outstanding young man..... now go post to the guy who wants to get from 9 to scratch in one year...... tell him it can be done.....

Welcome aboard and I think I can still go from 87/85 to shooting a round close to 125!!!! So I think I'm going backwards!!!

OBT....You're probably right that I didn't give him enough credit. It is certainly an incredible feat if we are reading it correctly. So here's to him :drinks:

I think he must be a heck of an athlete, although most of us know that is no guarantee for success in golf. As I'm sure we have all either seen or heard about guys who are all pros in their sports but can't break 100 to save their lifes. He has improved more in a few weeks, than I improved in over 20 years of playing. I think I'll go have that drink now :)
