naw- u dont HAVE to play in AJGA to play college golf- r u kidding?

Couldnt agree more. I never touched an AJGA tournament. That stuff doesnt mean as much as being able to play does. Im a plus handicap so college golf is an option. I break par more often than not, not many colleges pass up on guys that play like that regardless of AJGA status or not.

It depends what level you want to play at. If you want to play at the top tier D-1 programs, the biggest stage in college golf, then you have to have proven yourself by playing on the biggest stage in Junior Golf: the AJGA. If programs like the top D-1 schools aren't for you, then you have a lot of options in terms of tournaments that aren't the AJGA and still get recognized by coaches. The IJGT and FCWT are great national alternatives to the AJGA. Basically any tournament you can play well in that is ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard is a good tournament. Why play in an AJGA if you are going to shoot poorly and have it affect your ranking? I would argue that you have to play in tournaments, that high school golf and having a low index are not enough, but you don't need to feel like you have to play the AJGA. I played one AJGA, a couple IJGT's, but mostly my state Junior tour and I had plenty of coaches interested.

Not trying to turn this into an arguement or anything but I disagree again. I never played any of those big tournaments and I got offers to play college golf from colleges all the way in Indiana. (I live in Texas)

Yes, and congratulations on your offers, but OSU's (oklahoma state) new coach as well as M. Holder, Georgia Tech's B. Heppler, Florida's B. Alexander, pretty much pick their guys out of AJGA, so while you may have gotten offers from schools in Indiana, and I don't know which schools...those guys want the Nationally Ranked guys that are playing regularly in AJGA's and finishing top in them.

So while you can disagree, Little is actually quite right when he says the TOP of the D-1 pick their guys from nationally ranked AJGA competitors, not all D-1 works this way though, and the other divisions will certainly take other tournaments.

I got local offers too... I was just stating that I got offers from all over and I never played any nationally recognized tournaments. I know that placing well in AJGA is the best way to get a nod from a D-1 school but for those of us that cant afford AJGA its nice to know that that isnt the only way to get offers.

Ahh yeah they have some good players, bobby gates played over here in florida and went to A and M....I can certainly understand the school thing...playing golf at a school like that takes up a ton of time...its like having a full time job and trying to get school in....good luck man.

Cameron Circle T has got it right: I meant to be picked by the best schools you have to have played the best tournaments. I played one AJGA, didn't do that well, and most of my tournaments were state, not national tournaments, and I talked to a few D-1 coaches, before deciding on D-3. National tournaments are not a necessity, but it definitely helps in terms of getting your name out there.

I had an AJGA today, shot 71 with 33 f****** putts. I had 3 one putts and the rest 2 putts. Those 3 one putts combined for a length of 18 feet.

was that the golfpride??? Did you ever play in that north-south? if so how did you end up doing??

Yea I played North-South, didn't play too bad but the 2nd day I got sick because of the heat and would have withdrawn if we weren't playing #2 the next day.

I shot 74-81-77

we played #8 the first day, #5 the second day and #2 the 3rd day.

It was 101*, 103* (with heat index of 115), and 99*
