Best GPS with NO annual fees?

I was once in the firmly against gps camp, but have since changed my stance. I carry both now.

For casual rounds I really like the GPS. Quick and easy. I have it on my cart and can get the yardage as I come up to my ball.
For a more competitive round I would go with the laser as I think it is a bit more accurate.

I have an SG5 and found the cost of a yearly fee wasn't as much as the cost of paying for each course on the Upro. I will be subscribed 3 years on the SG5 before I'd equal the cost to purchase the minimum amount of courses I'd have to purchase for the Upro. In 3 years I will more than likely have moved on to a newer GPS so the advantage went to the Skycaddie.

The Upro Go is another option and the associated cost is less than the UPro. So if you decide to go that way then the Upro Go is probably your better option as the initial cost of the device is your only cost, the courses in the basic mode are all free. You just need to decide whether you really need any of the bells and whistles the Upro offers.
You may also check to make sure the courses in your area are mapped. I've heard rumblings of unmapped courses in certain areas, but that seems to be a diminishing complaint with the Upro Go as it gets more popular and more courses become available.

As for the laser it can be more accurate, but a little slower to use. By slower I mean maybe 10 -15 seconds or so. I really can't think of any disadvantages other than that.

The UPro Go - great device, fast, no annual fees and has every course I can imagine. I paid the $50 to get a couple of enhancements - not completely necessary, especially if you play fast.

So to get the "full"benefit there is a fee.

The redular Upro is actually really good. You can get the basic mode courses for free ( i get all the info i need). The only thing the promode gives you that the basic mode doesnt is a video flyover, which you only need if your are playing a course the first time... the new model also has an added feature that gives you an aerial-view style outline of the green and yardages to any hazards within 40 yards of the green, also gives the yardage to front, middle and back, as well as a cursor that you can move to the location of the pin. that feature wasnt in the very first generation upro, and you get that for all the courses in the free download,

I think someone made mention of callaway not having many courses, but i havent encountered this problem. i have always found the course I'm looking for using the free download.

Garmin G5 gets my vote, too.
No fee or what so ever. Free update of software & course map, shock & water proof.
I dropped on concrete twice and in the mud water once, just mild scratch nothing else.

...why would they charge fees....when they dont have courses? i am reviewing models...i looked into the various golfbuddy's and found every single course in my province....nova scotia in canada...reading fanboy reviews on the garmin g5 i decided it looked good til i went to their course listings...
now get this...nova scotia has about 90 courses...and in my area alone there are about 20 within no more than half hr drive to 45 minutes tops....and garmin g5? according to their website...2....no i am not joking...2 out of 90.

who would buy such a thing? who would go on about how they dont charge..no kidding...you are giving me 2% of the courses in my area....you sure are not getting any money from me.
golfbuddy...or skycaddie....but g5..no way.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
