Dvr is the way to go

Recorded today 1st round of the International on DVR(tivo to some of you) and I swear to God I watch the whole 2 hour broadcast in 25 minutes.

Fastforward players I don't want to watch, past tourney winners, BS talk, Fran Charles, and just watch Phil's group and Sergio(and his $900 green belt)

Usually watch all PGA tourneys, but I'd rather play 18 myself and relax and watch the broadcast with dinner.

However, I think this is the way to go for the busy working man to watch golf!!!

Although I'm glued to the TV during major's time(esp. the Masters), although I do ffwd all the Tiger butt kissing buy the golf analyst. I think If i can avoid the day scores and who shot what DVR is the way to go, too much busy time by the networks (USA, ABC, CBS, NBC), however i do enjoy Feherthy and Mcwhatisname commentary.

I have both a Toshiba DVD player/TiVo unit (from when I had analog cable) and a DirecTV DVR (from when I got DirecTV.) I was given the TiVo as a gift and didn't really think I would use it because I don't watch that much TV. Boy was I wrong. I can't live without a DVR now.

The TiVo definitely has a better software interface, but I wouldn't give up the dual tuner/dual record of the DTV DVR.

However, I have a question for anyone else with the DirecTV DVR: A couple of days ago, I noticed a change in the way my DVR is working. I think DirecTV did a firmware update. Specifically, the DVR is responding slower to commands from the remote control and, most annoying, I think the 30 second skip button has been changed. I used to be able to press it 4 times for a 2 minute skip, 6 times for a 3 minute skip, etc. It was great for skipping through commercials (you get a feel for how long each network takes for commercial breaks.) When I did, the number of times I pressed the button showed on the screen.

Now, you can only press the 30 second skip button once. Then you have to wait until it finishes before you can press it again.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Yeah, you can watch all the plays in an NFL game in about 25 minutes, tops.

HDTV DVR with Verizon Fiber in my house now. PGA in High Def on DVR is going to be great!

Also Red Sox vs. Spankees 5 games this weekend.

I've seen a ton of cable company DVR's around the country, and not one can hold a candle to TIVO's ease of use and user friendly features. It's definatley worth the menail up front cost of $50 and service fee. I just hope they stay in business for a couple of years more. :help:

They're so cheap now and have so many features. Mine is hooked up to my home network, so I can pass movies and TV back and forth between the Tivo and computer. Mine also has dual tuners . . . :wave:

No argument on the ease of use side. I wish I had gotten DirecTV when they were still using TiVo units - best of both worlds.

But even TiVo's new "dual tuner" unit isn't really. One tuner is a regular input that you can use with cable or satellite. But the other is purely analog. Can't use a splitter on your digital cable or satellite. Basically only accepts an analog cable line or rabbit ears/antenae. Where's the logic in that? TiVo has made some silly business decisions. Maybe when they go under, one of the major carriers (hint hint DirecTV) will buy their user interface.

By the way, for anyone who cares, I fixed my problem detailed above by unplugging my DVR and plugging it back in. I guess these things are so close to computers now, they have to be rebooted once in a while.
