Wanting to increase spin in R9 without changing shaft

I have a R9 9.5 with a Matrix Ozik Altus X-stiff. R11 tip on the shaft set in the lower loft position. I like the feel of a heavier club, so I added more weight to the head and some lead tape under the grip. I have 16 grams in the heal, 10 in the back, 6 in the toe. Probably 8 inches of lead tape under the grip.

I don't have any luanch numbers, and my only data is from range balls so far, but from what I saw, the launch is good. The problem is that once it gets out there a ways, is looks like the ball falls out of the sky quickly (dive bomb). My guess is that I don't have enough spin. I don't want to change out the shaft unless I have to, so I would rather move around some weight if that will help at all. Is ther any set-up I can do to increase the spin a bit. I am playing on Friday, so will be able to see how it flies with a PRO V compared to a range ball.

Chances are you have too much spin. If the ball takes off, climbs, peaks, and falls down then there is too much spin. You want lower spin. you want to be around 2200rpm's as far as spin goes. Most likely you have about 4000rpm's which is way too much. Lower spin will will cause the ball to shoot out, not climb as high, and land and roll. Like throwing a dart. Try and find a TrackMan Monitor and get some numbers on spin rate. I can almost guarantee you have too much spin.

If the ball continues to rise after the apex and does not penetrate down, then it has too much spin. If the ball knuckles and falls out of the sky before it reaches the apex, it does not have enough spin.

The way you have the club set up could be causing the loss of spin. By adding lead tape under the grip you drop swing weight and subtract spin. Additionally you have more than the recommended 18g grams of MWT. By adding to it you pull the club heads center of gravity up and forward forcing it to launch lower with less spin. You also have the wrong FCT system. The orginial R9 series had a larger, heavier (2 grams) FCT sleeve.

Do you have the R9 420 or the R9 460?

The ball does not continue to rise, it gets up quickly, has a nice flat trajectory, but then once it gets out there around 250 or so, it seems to dive down into the ground. I was thinking that I did not have enough spin to keep it up into the air after the ball speed slows down past the first 200 yards of carry.

I did get on a launch monitor yesterday and I was launching 10-12 degrees, ball speed seemed low around 2400 RPM, clubhead speed 109. Don't recall ball speed. we tinkered around with the weights abit and dropped ~6 grams and that seamed to bring up the spin a little. Just curious if this makes sense, or if it was just the swing, and if certain settings promote more or less spin with the weights? We tried to change the shaft setting, but my grips have reminders in them, so I couldn't get comportable swinging with anything other than the 1* low loft position it was set to.
