Victoria GC & Royal Colwood

Guys - I'm going on a guys week out that has golf, poker, and more golf in store. I will be playing at the two courses listed above and 2 others that have yet to be booked. I was wondering if anyone played these and what I can expect? Thanks
Ps. I am going in Mid-September, so weather should still be nice.

Royal Colwood Golf Club is easily one of the best courses in Western Canada, not a tremendously tough course but gorgeous never the less and first class all the way definately a top course.

 

Never golfed Victoria CC so I can't comment but when you are up there Bear Mountain is another must stop and new course but deffinately a challenge and again a first class course.

Booked within seven days and paid $90 with cart. Fantastic resort and great golf with scenic views... a must play. Also, Olympic View is georgeous and tight (down the road from Bear Mountain). I included a few pics of both...

both are real good but Cordova Bay is better then Olympic View....Victoria Club could be call the Pebble Beach of canada.....some of the best seaside holes i have played outside of the UK...

On top of the courses already mentioned you may want to look at Arbutus Ridge as well.

VGC is probably my all time favorite course. If you click on the link, there is a picture of my grandfather - L.B. Williams - http://www.victoriagolf.com/history/presidents/index.html. He loved it there so much that when he died my parents spread his ashes on the 9th hole... which is called Gibraltar.

 

I agree with the above posters that Olympic View would be a great addition to your trip. Those are the only two I've played on the island but I've heard the others are great as well. No matter where you play you'll have an awesome trip!

I'm going to offer another point of view on Bear Mt. I'm not a fan of blind shots and quirky holes. Our foursome hit at least 20 irons during the day that landed short of the pin, then ended up 20 off the back fringe. It's a great course to look at with some really nice par 3's, but overall I was disappointed and won't be going back.

Cordova is better for tourists. OV is better for golfers IMO

Best track in Victoria by miles. 6,900 at sea level, tough as nails with great greens. Might be bias since I'm a member there but....

This would be my top ten courses in greater Victoria in order.

1. Gorge Vale*
2. Bear Mountain Valley Course
3. Victoria Golf Club* (only for the experience not for the golf)
4. Uplands Golf Club*
5. Royal Colwood*
6. Highland Pacific (and its not even 100% done yet)
7. Bear Mountain Mountain Course
8. Cordova Bay
9. Olympic View
10. Glen Meadows* (June to September Only)

* = Private but none are 100% private. There are no members only courses in Victoria the tax laws make it immposible to have a 100% private golf club.

Victoria GC looks beautiful when you drive past it.
Bear Mountain is fun but I prefered Olympic View for some reason. I would not complain about playing any of these courses.
