Today I got my Hoofer Vantage, and it sucks. First problem is that it is two pounds heavier than my Hoofer Extreme. Usually companies are trying to make each bag lighter. My second problem is that it is ugly, looks like a combination of a cart bag and carry bag with too many pockets, looks better in the picture. With the extra weight of the bag, why would I want to put more things in it. I also dont like the 5-way dividng system, clubs seem to get stuck to each other.

Want I like about the Vantage: I do like the straps better than the ones on the Hoofer Extreme, doesn't have the standing strap. One of the straps can be removed, which I would never do, but I guess it gives you the option. I also like the velour lined top instead of the nylon that the Extreme had. The nylon seemed to fray.

In all based on weight and looks, I rather have a Hoofer Extreme. I will be giving the Vantage to my dad and back to the store for a Hoofer Extreme.

That is too bad. I really wanted to like the Vantage, but was worried about the weight.

 

I hear Cally's new bag is supposed to be good and the new Nike as well. We shall see; otherwise, I will look for an extreme as well.

I just can't comprehend why they would come out with a heavier bag, I could get past it, but the bag is to ugly to make that compromise.

i must say, all the colour combinations are ugly. two thumbs down from me

Yeah, I was kind of interested in the all-white customer order being talked up, but the weight is scaring me away. I've got a pretty heavy bag right now (I think it's approx 6lbs) and it is a beast to carry. 2 pounds makes more difference than you think it will. The regular colors available for this bag leave me wondering what Ping is thinking.

a local college plays at my course and they just got the vantage and i picked it up and it was very lite!!! the only problem is the the stands dont go all the way up when you carry the bag.. if you get a custom color and dont mind the stands then this bag is better looking than the extreme in my opinion

interested in seeing the bag in person, but cant find them anywhere. TGW just pushed back their expected arrival date til 9/29 or 10/20 depending on color.

 

Is ping having problems making these in volume and delivering them to retailers?

I've never liked ping bags. I tried but just couldn't stand them. I picked up the 2007 Sun Mountain 3.5...will try it on the course tomorrow. Great features...3.5 pounds.

I am really disappointed to learn that Ping has added two pounds to this bag. I was waiting for my club pro shop to get some in this week, but 6+ pounds is too heavy for a true carry bag. The shop does have a Hoofer Extreme, however. I have never carried a Ping bag and am concerned because of the number of comments regarding clubs getting stuck, stand not extending, etc. Any thoughts? The shop also has a Mizuno Aerolite......

I was told by Ping (called them to see) that the Vantage was 6.5 lbs.

TGW list the Vantage @ 6.5 lbs....or at least the last time I looked.

I would like someone to weigh a new, completely empty Vantage, and see what it weighs.

what kind of material is it made out of? the same as the hoofer extreme or like the hoofer 2's and 3's?

I'm thinking about going for a hoofer... Cannot find an older one, like the hoofer2 that is in decent enough shape/colour.

 

So I am looking at the extreme and vantage. Does this new vantage have embroidered lettering on it, or is just an iron on? I am not really that concerned with the extra 2 pounds of wieght here, but do want a 2 strap system that is comfortable... what strap system is better here (hoofer or extreme)? Is the vantage stable when placed down, as the original 2005 extreme was not stable on it's feet and tended to fall over in the wind. I am probably going to wait until the end of this season now to get a bag and would be interested to continue hearing reviews of the two.

I finally got my Vantage last week and couldn't be happier! The most egronomical bag that I have used. All of the storage compartments are easily accessible with awesome easy to grab zippers. My favorite bag to date. The weight was not an issue!

I can feel the difference when I put a full Gatorade (500ml) into my bag, so two pounds would make a big difference.

What do you think of the double strap/retractable strap?

How is the lettering put onto the bag... embroidered/sewn or ironed on plastic?

... much more in line with the 5.5 that i've seen listed everywhere.

 

any problems with the stand system not deploying or fully retracting, legs hanging down when you walk, etc.? to me if the bag's stand system does not work well, then it's a loser no matter whatever else it may have going for it.

 

i've found the pings to be some of the best on that score (except the extreme). my current ogio shling has a very poor stand system. i had a sun mountain stand break on me at a bad time ... bad enough to not consider another of their bags for some time.

I just got a new Ohio State Buckeyes Hoofer Vantage and had it out this past weekend for the first time walking 18. I've owned other versions of the original Hoofer and to me the stand seemed about the same as it always has. It deployed perfectly and the legs drooped just a bit when I had the bag on my shoulders but the legs on my other Hoofers always did that. I didn't experience anything that would lead me to think there's a problem and I'm sure everything will work well for a long time because that's what Ping bags do. FWIW, I think the Vantage is the best Hoofer yet. I like the top design a lot, plenty of pockets with enough room for everything I could need but not too big that the space is wasted. One peculiar thing sort of, is I didn't find my clubs sticking going in or coming out as with past Hoofers. I don't know if I was just lucky or it the new top design helped in that regard.........
