Titliest Frustration! Why can't the head be square anymore

What are my options??

So I have played every Titliest head since the D and the new line just isn't cutting it for me. I finally found a 983K that set up square enough for me, but the 905R just isn't square like the old heads used to be!! I know a lot of people will claim it is, but these heads have simply gotten more and more closed since the 975J. I recently went to a J33 460, and while I hit bombs with it sometimes, it just isn't as forgiving as the Titleist drivers.

Any clubmakers out there, maybe the master Joe K, have advice as to how to square up a Titliest head given the bore-thru? Can anything be done to create an R that sets up square or open? Maybe I should just hold oout for the 907!!

Get a tour 905r.

The 905R is square, but if what you really want is open, get a 905S. You won't find a more open retail club that that.

I just don't want to have to pay for a tour club just because I want it square. I am thinking maybe I will have to go over to the darkside and by a taylor made TP driver. I have had some success there in the past. Titliest why are you doing this to me!

I'm still playing my 983E...and it looks just a hair open to me. It's not the most forgiving club in the world, but I've been having great success with it this year. I have a 983K as well, and while I think that face is square, the weighting frustrates me.

 

R5 TP's are going very cheap now on eBay, I've had my eye on those for a few weeks, and have tried a few combos out at the local chain stores. You can pick up one with a diamana blue shaft for ~200 including headcover (but no weight kit, etc.). For a 450cc head, I don't think you can get much more forgiving than that.

easy cheap way: use a ribbed grip and put it on the shaft at about 5:00 position instead of 6:00. When you take your normal grip, the club should be square or a little open.

Not a bad idea on the grip, but mentally i just don't think it will fully do it for me.

 

Yeah, the r5 and the r7 shallow are looking like nice options for me at the moment!

I've got a 905S retail that looks about 2* open...and that's comparing against a J33P and J33R 460!

Yep, sounds like you are really looking for a 905S. The K and the R are both gonna be draw-biased, to some extent. Not as much as most other company's drivers, but a bit draw-biased.

well i mean i dunno if you like ping at all, i recently dumped my 905r for a g5. But you can put an order in with pingwrx and they should set you up with an open head if you so desire. If ping does it, id imagine other companies do to.

Get a 905S judge. They're square and a deeper-face profile than the T/R. Cheap as chips now on ebay. I find my 905S is workable both ways and doesn't spin as much as many drivers.

you could get the new tour edge exotics driver. it is 2 degrees open and the ball goes forever.

You could always go custom and have the clubmaker order you a hand picked open driver. Nakashima, KZG, and Wishon all do this. I do however, like the Exotics suggestion. Ball go really far.

i would say the S too cuz i would be playing it if i wasent for a friend of mine who got the 905R back in december and got tired of it and sold it to me for 300!!

 

905s with a fujikura vista tour 60 great combo!!!!

As a lot of you said, there are other brands and heads out there. I realize that of course! I just have been playing a Titleist for years and feel comfortable with them. The best part about the 975D when it came out was that it was a total player's club, no B.S. or gimicks, and a nice square face. I expect that from Titleist but it just isn't the case with all the clubs these days.
