Anybody live there?

Hello there,

I'm seriously considering a move to Bend OR and have heard and read about the great courses in the area. I'd like to get feedback from someone who currently makes Bend or Central OR their home or has spent some time there and their thoughts on the golf and seasons. Are the winters really "mild", can you sometimes play year round, etc? I'm from Southern California where I play year round and love it. I appreciate any feedback!

not living there but know people who live there Crooked River, Madras, Bend. You can play during the winter it's just sometimes hard to predict, whether the it will snow or not, and it can get chilly and frosty even when the sun is out.

there is always skiing at Bachelor :D

I grew up in Portland and my parents moved to Sisters (20 min from Bend) about 6 or 7 years ago. I get out there usually once or twice a year. Quite honestly, winters are pretty wintery. You're pretty much at the foot of the Cascades. You might be able to play through November and start back up in February during mild winters but it gets cold and does snow. The courses on the other hand are absolutely marvelous. My folks live on Aspen Lakes (the one with the red volcanic bunkers) and I've played a few other courses in Bend and Redmond. All very nice. You might actually like the down time in the winter as it's really not that long (3-4 months). Downtime actually helps my game. Plus winters here (eastern Idaho) and in central Oregon give you a great excuse to hit Vegas/Mesquite/southern Utah.
