Shaft Recommendation for Hi-Bore

Hi everyone,

 

I'm new to this forum, so please forgive me if I sound awkward or my question is incomplete. Up to recently, I have been using 9.5 degrees Cobra SS 427 with Fujikura Speeder S shaft (I forgot the model number) that has mid bend and torque of 3.7. Before re-shafting with this Fujikura, I was using the stock shaft and my drives were flying everywhere (mostly slices). Even though I do understand that this problem is mostly due to my swing, I'm hoping that the equipment can help me a little, so I re-shafted with the Fujikura and my drives were a little more consistent, but still slicing (more like fading).

 

After hearing so much about Hi-Bore in helping to narrow down the dispersion of the shots, I’ve went to pick one up, with Fujikura Stiff stock shaft. The head is also 9.5 degrees. It was quite disappointing that this combination is causing my drives to be back to the old major slicing again. I understand that I need to correct my swing, but I also realized that probably the shaft is too soft for my swing also.

 

My drive swing spec is 100 ~ 105 Swinging Head Speed and fast tempo. When I was using the Cobra, most of my shots are high trajectories, but with the Hi-bore, my shots are mid to high trajectories. I will like to hear everyone recommendations on which shaft shall I consider. (Looking for shaft that helps to straighten my shots, with mid trajectories. Currently I’m considering UST V2 75 Stiff and Graffalloy Comp 85 NT, as per website’s shaft fitting recommendation.) If there are other recommendations besides these two, your opinion is highly appreciated. Thank you.

I tell you what when I first got my hibore, I went through about two rounds of missing all my drives to the right. I think it is something in the way the head is designed. I used to play a 983 K with a Fuji Stiff shaft in it. I have found that the Hibore is a club that you can't go after 100 percent, More like about 90. My swing speed is about like yours. I would suggest that you go get fit for that club, because that is one of the hardest drivers to be fit for. During my testing we started with a Pro launch, but in the end the Nvs shafts worked best for me. Nice mid flight.

Like the other poster said, you should get fit. I have a low ball flight and about 100-105 ss, and ended up with Graf Pro Launch 65 stiff that I'm happy with. (Tried the NV and the stock shaft but both were both launching the ball too low.)

The Comp NT is a nice fit in this head.

I have a friend who is a scratch golfer and hits drives 300 plus. He just got a HiBore. He found you have to tee it lower to get the distance and control. I thought I'd pass that on.

Thank you very much for your advises and recommendations. Actually, I went for a fitting session today. After trying several shafts, turns out that the best result is the Fujikura Speeder 757 S-Flex. (Actually, the the fitting pro only brought out the expensive Japanese shafts for me to try. Even though I was requesting for the UST V2 and the Comp NT, he keep trying to persuade me that these Japanes shafts fits better.)

 

The Fujikura Speeder 757 does feels solid and great at impact and it did help with straighting my drives, the price is quite high. I will like to ask for everyone's advise, again, on what is the best alternative to the Fujikura Speeder 757 that's within the US$100 budget?

 

At the same time, please advise on how is the performance difference between the Graffalloy Comp NT 85 and the UST V2 75 (with both S-Flex).

 

Any suggestions or advises on the replacement shaft to the Cleveland Hi-Bore is welcome and highly appreciated.
