Phoenix Area Golf suggestions

Playing in March

I'll be there on the 12th 7 13th and plan to get some rounds in while my wife is at a conference. I'll be going as a single and would like some recommendations on courses with good value, condition, & pace of play. If anyone wants to join me on the course that's cool too. I prefer to play with better golfers and play to a 7 handicap myself, usually from the tips unless I get paired with people that obviously don't play much.

There's already a thread with some suggestions but money wasn't a concern for him. I'd like to do it as cheap as possible and play (2) rounds on 1 of the days.

i always play ken macdonald when i go to phx. i have relatives in tempe so im there every year or 2. its a muni i believe so its cheap but has good length and i find it fun.

i also play rolling hills while im there too because the pace of play is great. the problem is that its short (i play with no woods). maybe par 31/30 or something.

Vistal is a solid value on golfnow, id be down to play on one of those days as well.

Karsten ASU - No breathtaking vistas (unless you are in to high tension wires), but the architecture is as good as it gets...

Golf Now often has good discount rates for Power Ranch. It on the south east side of the metro area, so it may a be a bit of a drive.

Dobson ranch is cheap, ocotillo isnt too bad. I like vistal, played there twice last year. On the first par three I hit mine to 14 feet after a buddy knocked it to four feet. Yeah I birdied it and he didn't, he was furious! Anyways, it's a great value. Ironwood isn't too bad either, legends trail too.

Vista verde was one of the best I played when out there and it was not pricey at all. Great views and golf.

Also, if you're looking for a cheap muni, pick Dobson ranch over ken Mac, it's a much better course and value. What part of town will you be staying in?

Give [b]Papago Golf Course[/b] in Phoenix a try. It is near the airport and downtown Phoenix. It is a municipal course and good value, book thru GolfNow/Phoenix. The [b]LPGA[/b] had their event there couple of years ago and the course is in great shape. It stretches out to over 7300 yards and it is quite the challenge. Good luck and enjoy your stay.

I played Vistal a few years back with a group of guys from NM on a buddy trip. It was a total goat track in January with no winter rye green grass. However, my buddy aced one of the par 3s with a very cool shot over the flag that spun back and from the elevated tee, we watched it roll right in!

I would check out ezlinks.com and golfnow.com for next week as an example of what is available then based on your price range, ask people on this forum what they think. I bet you could get feedback from someone that even played some of those courses in the past couple of weeks. I will be out there next week and recommend WeKoPa and Eagle Mountain in Scottsdale both of which are in the $170+ range but may have a deal thru the web sites I mentioned. I played Papago over the Christmas holiday and it was in good shape and not bad for muni. I have heard the ASU Karsten course is pretty nice and on my list to play soon. There are a ton of nice courses and it depends a lot on how much you want to pay.
