I tend to hit a fade. Sometimes it's a slice, but I usually can keep it in the fairway. My main problem is that I don't drive it far. My average drive is probably around 235 yards. I just feel like i'm missing something here

any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

tough to tell from this angle but it looks like you are pulling the club face across the ball (maybe a bit over the top). do you have a "down the line" video? also, make sure your grip pressure is as light as possible. many times when you slice or "power fade" the ball with driver you aren't allowing the club face to close at impact - this often due to too tight of grip pressure. loosen the grip and let your hands turn over. just my $0.02. hope it helps.

need a down-the-line view.

looks like you have some weird setup angles going on, shoulders look like they're aiming to left field at address, with a very vertical spine.

that'll create a stuck, weak fade/slice every time, particularly with a driver.

http://youtu.be/kUYHzHO3K_E look at how much his spine tilts away from the target at address, at the top of the backswing, and then even moreso at impact. allows him to turn into his right side (not to be confused with sliding over his right side), get behind it, and swing in-ball-in instead of out-to-in. you can pretty much go through any pro's swing and see the same type of thing. http://youtu.be/Wc9Wb9JKpTE

in your swing your left shoulder is even with your lead foot at address. and at the top of the backswing it's still even while your spine is basically vertical, and at impact it's also even.

i'd just make sure your shoulders are parallel with your feet at address. right shoulder is below left shoulder. and your spine tilts to the right. keep that tilt throughout the swing

thanks so much guys.

I see what you mean now about having a vertical spine with not much movement. I used to have a very bad reverse pivot and I think I have made such a point not to do that anymore that it's caused this new problem.

I will also definitely try that towel drill to help use my arms more.

I won't be playing until this weekend unfortunately, but I'll get a down the line view and post it up.

your first move away from the ball is lifting your hands straight up and away from you and then turning the club behind you. puts your shoulders on a flat plane at the top (relative to spine angle), which generally leads to bad places.

so along with the stuff i mentioned before, i'd work on feeling like your hands are passing right by your right pocket for the first move away from the ball, without hinging your wrists at all until halfway back or so (clubhead will stay pointing at the ball and outside your hands)....and this will be instigated by a shoulder turn where your left shoulder moves under your chin.

you're also on your toes and standing up in the downswing. left hip needs to work deep behind you and you need to maintain your posture in the downswing.

that seems like a lot to work on. but most of it is setup stuff which is easy to fix, as well as first move away from the ball which is relatively easy to rehearse and do. and those things should put you in positions where doing the correct things on the downswing comes more naturally.

Played a round today!

tfish, your advice helped out so much. I put most of my focus today on staying off my toes. I bent over the ball a bit more and it kept me staying down on my downswing instead of standing up
I was hitting my irons very square and they felt great. My drives were a bit hit and miss but I didn't expect much difference trying new stuff out right away.

thanks again for your tips. Much appreciated!

Still a bit reversey

Agree with tfish and delfam 's comments.

Just turn around your tilted spine going back and the reversey look should go away.Even your practice swings encourage a handsy takeaway.Try to make sure that the angle of the left side of your hand remains in intact from setup to 8:00.This means NO INDEPENDENT MOVEMENT BY THE HANDS OR WRISTS AT ALL IN THE TAKEAWAY.The hands just hold on to the club
